Making Dead Things Look Nice is a great penultimate episode that sets up Eve and Villanelle for the final stretch as it ties up one of the last big loose ends.

In the end, it’s going to be Eve and Villanelle for better or worse which should not come as much of a surprise to anyone. The penultimate episode of the season and the series was all about positioning.

When it looked like Gunn’s (Marie-Sophie Ferdane) island would be a great refuge, Villanelle once again learned what happens whenever she gets too comfortable. On the other side of that, Eve found herself in a rut. Her mission seemingly was over after the death of Hélène, however, she still felt incomplete. Nevertheless, she tried to move forward but as far as she was concerned, she wasn’t ready to move on and neither was her past. This left her on a quest for purpose and direction. The showing of vulnerability on behalf of Sandra Oh as Eve through these moments was powerful to watch.

Let us not forget how Konstantin is also one of the core characters of the series and that Kim Bodnia deserves his due and he certainly delivered a fantastic performance here. The Twelve had taken such a hold on him and perhaps his time with Pam was his second (or maybe more) chance to do something different as that shift within him was clear to see. He had been plotting a way out for such a long time that one can’t help but want that for him but that being said, the inevitable still finds a way to strike back despite anti sentiment otherwise though it was still sad when it did.

At this point, Carolyn was alone which was fine with her. The Twelve may operate in cells that are completely separate but she still had her lead on the leadership group who still met on occasion and a coded messaging system. Her investigation sent her back to London. Meanwhile, Hélène’s phone had evidence to send Eve in that same direction.

But for whatever Eve was about to do, she couldn’t do it alone as mentioned. That reunion was not a straightforward one as the episode leaves some drama for next week’s series finale. While it’s hard to imagine anything coming from it, it will be interesting to see where the finale goes from here.
