As this season goes along, it becomes clear that maybe Michelle and Conrad really had a relationship though it’s still hard to not be skeptical about it considering the former’s propensity for delusions of grandeur. She believed it was love but perhaps her definition is a lot different than what the common sense definition would be. Nevertheless, this episode dove deeper into what it appeared to be Michelle and Conrad’s blossoming relationship since their first encounter, spending their first moments in person since then and getting perhaps a little more physical. Meanwhile, cases for the prosecution and the defense were being built in Michelle’s present manslaughter trial, continuing to open wounds for the Roy and Carter families.

Feeling disillusioned with school and his relationship with Michelle who may or may not have been over Susie, Conrad wanted to work on a boat with his father. Offering his support, Conrad attended Michelle’s grandmother’s funeral where they then left the reception for some extracurricular activity on the baseball field.

As far as Michelle was concerned, she wanted to tell the jury about her love story though her lawyer, Joseph Cataldo (Michael Mosley), rightfully advised against that. In the meantime, Rayburn worked to prove motive by unraveling Michelle’s obsessive personality to show that her actions were all for attention and navigate the tightrope that was the Roy family. With the case hitting the news, the Roys felt blindsided while the Carters had to deal with the scrutiny on them. The news story was good news for the defense as it brought a medical expert out of the woodwork offering to testify in her defense about how her medications may have impacted her behavior. Michelle had body image issues.

Regardless of the controversy around her, Michelle was still adamant about going to school and completing her senior year. She decided to go to prom with the only person from her school that hadn’t shunned her. However, all she imagined was Conrad which made her happy until reality and the emotions came back and she had to take out those frustrations by overworking herself on her treadmill.

At the end of the day, the Michelle and Conrad stuff just isn’t as interesting at this point, performances aside. The multiple timelines are getting increasingly harder to follow alongside the upcoming courtroom drama which seems a lot more appealing. It will surely all converge therefore the real series could begin.
