Synopsis: Doctor Andrews treats a foster kid for injuries sustained at his group home; Shaun and team look to Lea’s expertise with cars and auto repair to help a patient whose iron lung has broken; the patient’s niece takes an interest in Shaun. (TV Guide)
This season of The Good Doctor is officially back on track now as a case brings Murphy and Lea back together by perhaps putting them in the spotlight. Meanwhile, Hill Harper delivers a stellar performance as Andrews who carves out a decent chunk of the episode as he shows that he still has a heart when it comes to his latest patient.
If Murphy and Lea were to get married, they would need to find some sort of compromise considering their busy lives but they’d surely find a way. However, they would find themselves working together on Murphy’s latest patient, a physics professor suffering from heart issues who had also been living using an iron lung. Meanwhile, her documentarian niece named Sophie (Hollis Jane Andrews) was fascinated by their relationship and wanted to feature them in a reality show where she offers to pay for their wedding. The decision of whether or not to appear on a reality show was a daunting one.
Ultimately, that question would have to wait in favor of fixing the iron lung before it was too late though at that point, she would need to move on from it in order to survive. But she would need to learn to move on from the safety and certainty of her iron lung to overcome her fear of the unknown. She just needed a reason to keep going and a video from her niece was all she needed.
Andrews took charge of a foster teen named Kevin (Marcus Gladney Jr.) who he believed to have been abused in his group home. However, getting him to open up and trust him proved to be a challenge. Andrews’ suspicions were quickly confirmed but it did not address the root of the issue. He saw himself in Kevin because they were both dyslexic which was the cause of the bullying suffered from the latter. Andrews overcame his dyslexia and he believed that Kevin could as well so he went above and beyond to help. That being said, it was clear that he did not want to go back to the group home because he was physically assaulted as a result of his dyslexia. Finding Kevin a new home, Andrews may have bent the rules to keep him at the hospital until a spot opened for him.
Allen and Lea were getting closer with their big idea but needed an endorsement from someone with clout. Therefore, they approached Glassman who had some ideas of his own as he misinterpreted his position in their dynamic, learning a lesson about sexism in the process. He was told by Reznick about how he should stay quiet and learn his place within the team.
By the end, Lea and Murphy agreed to be on Sophie’s reality show. Now that’s going to be something.
