Barry (3×05) Crazytimeshitshow Review

This latest episode of Barry certainly lived up to its title as characters are facing all kinds of repercussions for their actions, deserved or not. Where the series truly thrives is within its chaos and there was definitely plenty of that here. Things aren’t looking very good at the moment for everyone but Cousineau which is perhaps fitting after everything he’s had to go through. It’s hard to not be happy for him. As the season has reunited viewers with the characters they’ve missed for so long, it’s been slowly planting seeds and moving pieces around in order to set up some sort of comeuppance though with the series already renewed for a fourth season, one could make the assumption that a particular titular character will probably be safe. Whoever he’ll become by then remains to be seen. However again, things aren’t looking too great. In the end, just like the series has done so well over its run, it balances so many themes and tones beautifully and this episode was no different.

It all begins with the return of Albert Nguyen, a soldier Barry saved during their time together in the army. Now Nguyen is investigating the death of Moss and he did not waste any time to call out the police’s ineptitude. Meanwhile, Barry moved back in with some old friends from the acting class who have made quite a life for themselves. Getting advice from Hank about Sally wasn’t as ridiculous as it sounded. Little did Hank know that he and his organization would become the target of Nguyen’s investigation while Cristobal’s wife Elena (Krizia Bajos) wanted her revenge. That was when the shitshow really began in what was a crazy sequence.

Cousineau made the most out of his career resurgence by trying to make amends for his past misdeeds. With the money given to him by Barry, he bought Leo a house so they can stay close. Besides Joe Mantegna, another person from his past, a theatre director named Annie (Laura San Giacomo), was going to be a tougher situation to fix.

Sally has reached the highest of highs following the premiere of her show but this was inevitably followed by a downward trajectory with her show suddenly getting cancelled at the behest of a ridiculous algorithm that essentially ran its former streaming service home.

Fuches’ manipulation of those connected to Barry’s past hits continued as the mother-son duo of Julie (Annabeth Gish) and Kyle (Alex MacNicoll) hit a snag in their attempt at revenge. Clearly not made for it, their indecision led Julie to accidentally shoot Kyle as Barry watch unbeknownst to what was happening after leaving his old apartment with Sally. Trying to be more himself did not go down well in trying to console Sally after her bad day.

Fuches is going to die isn’t he as Barry is surely going to find his way back to him?
