Just Jen, is a very contained episode which the show not only delivers exceptionally well but even addresses with one of the few fourth-wall breaking moments throughout the episode.
Yes, many fans were expecting Daredevil to pop up this week following the awesome final frame of last weeks episode. However, Just Jen excels in delivering another hilarious, grounded and sweet episode of an otherwise brilliant MCU Disney+ series. Already, one can probably sense the Marvel fan uproar over the lack of cameos, more specifically Daredevil, but even without those cameos this episode is still among the best and sweetest of the series so far, and having any cameos this week would have felt forced and have taken a lot away from it.
The episode sees Jen going to a wedding of her college friend Lulu who had asked her to be her bridesmaid. In true Jen fashion, she turns up as She-Hulk to which Lulu asks her not too as it will ruin her big day. Titania is also at the wedding which Jen immediately calls out and says she is only there to “mess with” her, but everyone including Titania calls her accusation ridiculous. Similarly, Jen finds herself talking to a rather charming wedding guest, Josh, who appreciates and admires Jen in her casual Jennifer Walters form. Which after seeing many terrible guys actively state in a court of law that they were only dating her for She-Hulk, is a very sweet and charming turn. We can only hope we will see more of him in the last two episodes.
Towards the end of Lulu’s big day, Jen has had a lot to drink and begins to vomit, Titania punches Jen square in the face sending her flying and triggering She-Hulk, leading to a showdown and Titania easily beaten and ridiculed.
As always, the B-plot is were most of the fun was had as Mallory returns working a divorce case alongside Nikki. The divorce case however, is a with a super-powered being known as Mr. Immortal who instead of confronting his wives/husbands about leaving them, he instead fakes his death to get out of that relationship. This causes a hilarious interaction with all his currently living ex-partners. Malory and Nikki are amazing and hilarious together and will surely leaving viewers wanting more of the duo.
All in all, Just Jen, whilst grounded, is one of the better episodes of the series so far. Although Daredevil may not show up, it is no way a knock against the episode while offering another fun, sweet and hilarious ride.
The final moments of the episode result in plenty of excitement for next week and is sure to spark many fan theories as to who is responsible for wanting She-Hulk’s blood, perhaps Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader?
