Rating Summary
World War Z is a fantastic yet formulaic entry into the zombie subgenre, offering a fast-paced watch on an unparalleled scale.

Zombies have been an important staple in horror films ever since George A Romero introduced the world to the brain eating monsters in 1968’s Night of The Living Dead. Ever since, we have seen zombies and the zombie genre have evolved as they have become much scarier from their slow walking days back in 1968. Now after such films as 28 Days Later, Train to Busan, and World War Z zombies are faster and deadlier than ever.

Although the film may not be as ground-breaking or genre defying as other zombie films such as Shaun of the Dead or Train To Busan, World War Z still offers a unique, action-packed, thrill ride that still holds up against the best in the subgenre. The film follows former U.N Investigator Gerry Lane (Pitt) who must travel to each corner of the globe to prevent an ever-growing Zombie pandemic. Lane found himself risking everything to find all the answers he needs to stop this outbreak.

World War Z offers a zombie film on a scale unlike anything else before, from Lane’s world tour as well as the ginormous and exciting action set pieces. The action is exciting and exhilarating and among some of the best in the zombie subgenre. This is further helped by terrifying design of the film’s zombies. The fact that they can run almost as fast a velociraptor is undoubtedly terrifying, not to mention their resourceful nature of the zombies essentially sees them swarm like bees, allowing them to climb upon one another to climb the largest of buildings which is quite a sight. Meanwhile, the film wastes no time to get going and keeps up that same frenetic pace throughout.

Pitt as Lane is awesome as usual as his action prowess guide him as a quick-thinking character having to navigate his way through an endless onslaught of zombies and although the role may not be as iconic as many other main characters within the zombie subgenre, he certainly deserves some recognition here.

World War Z may not necessarily tread any new ground in terms of zombie films, so for those looking for a new and unique experience probably won’t find it here. But for those looking for a fun and action-packed zombie-fueled experience, this film certainly delivers.

At the end of the day, World War Z delivers another fantastic entry into the zombie subgenre, offering an incredibly fast-paced watch with spectacular and tense action set pieces on an unparalleled scale and an awesome main character. Although it may be formulaic and doesn’t bring all that much to the table, the film should still rank among many of the best zombie films.
