Andor has garnered a name for itself for its undeniable tension and brilliantly-developed and well-written characters. The series’ writers know how to tell an engaging and layered story, building up to many exciting and big moments. One Way Out delivers all this and more while truly cementing the series as a top tier Star Wars project not to miss.

Following on from last week’s episode, Andor, Kino Loy and the rest of the inmates, all plot to escape Narkina 5. Their plan went into effect once a new inmate was brought on the floor. The moments on Narkina 5 were easily the best and most tense parts of the episode and thankfully the majority takes place there. The escape is thrilling and undeniably tense as many key characters shockingly keep getting killed. Loy once again shines in this episode thanks to a phenomenal performance from Serkis along with many other great character moments. While it is uncertain whether or not Loy will pop up again, it will no doubt be exciting whenever he does.

Mon Mothra once again proves that she is one of the best characters in the series. This time, Mothra finally meets with Davo Sculdum in the hopes that he will give her the funds she needs. However, she is rightfully not thrilled about the price. Mothra doesn’t want to go through with the decision but it’s incredibly important to prove how much the Rebellion means to her. Again, Reilly is impeccable as Mothra, giving her much needed and very welcomed depth and nuance to accentuate the already amazing writing.

Meanwhile, over at the Imperial Headquarters, Dedra Meero continues to track down Andor and the Rebellion. Meero is a character fans were rooting for at the start of the season, as someone who wasn’t taken seriously and was undermined by her co-workers. But now she has power, Meero is utterly ruthless and its very difficult to decide whether to root for her or not, which makes for a far more layered and enjoyable experience. Similarly, Syril Karn returns to stalk Meero, which she is not thrilled about. This interaction could lead towards two things. One is a romantic connection or Karn fighting against the Empire after learning how corrupt it is.

It is also revealed that Luthen has a spy inside the Empire which gives audiences context as to how he gains his knowledge of the Empire but it will also make fans terrified for him as it won’t be long before Meero catches on and there will surely be hell to pay as a result. It’s always awesome seeing Luthen return, this time giving audiences more understanding of the character after a heart-pounding and somewhat inspiring speech.

In the end, One Way Out is simply Andor at its best, delivering heart-pounding tension and brilliant writing that keep raising the stakes. This episode delivers a near perfect Star Wars experience that further sells Andor as one of the best live action Star Wars series ever.
