Gen V (1×07) Sick Review

Following what was the best episode of the season last week, this latest episode of Gen V continues that run as things are truly coming together as all the cards are now on the table though that being said, it still had a few surprises up its sleeve. The penultimate episode of the season, it had some heavy lifting to do but it pulled it off. With the news that the series has been renewed for a second season, it has to start planting seeds to set up where that second season would go and perhaps that path ultimately lies with its connection to The Boys and that world as the fate of Goldokin University also laid in the balance. However, in order for the series to continue, that would presumably be cutting ties with its original premise, something it has essentially been building to from the beginning.

Thrilled with the progress of Dr. Cardosa’s virus, Shetty set her sights a little higher. As many suspected Shetty to be working on behalf of someone or something above her, it became clear that this was not the case. Either way, the key for Marie and co., was to expose Shetty and The Woods to the public. Cate and her powers was the easiest play but trusting her wasn’t a sure thing at the moment. Luckily for them, Victoria Neuman was also coming to town. A vice-presidential candidate running during a divided time, highlighted by a contentious town hall made worse by the last second removal of Polarity as the moderator. Ultimately, if anyone was going to catch up to Neuman, it’d be Marie and that conversation was an enlightening one as Neuman promised to take care of the virus situation with a tone that suggested otherwise.

The former plan didn’t seem that feasible on paper because it’s easy to doubt that Cate’s latest interaction with Shetty would be any different and it certainly appeared to start that way until things somehow changed, leaving plenty of drama and uncertainty at the top. That’s assuming whether or not viewers believe the validity of what just happened. Meanwhile, Sam being out in the world for an extended period of time only exposed how long he must have been held in captivity as his social skills were not quite at the same level as everyone else, on top of his already known issues. Not knowing any better, it left him in a vulnerable and highly-impressionable state which made him a challenge for Emma.

Getting all the big stuff out of the way here, the uncertainty will hopefully allow for a truly crazy season finale next week. Trying to turn the tables one more time on viewers and taking the story in a different direction, the season promises to end on an even more chaotic high note.

Sick was sick (as the kids say) and a great penultimate episode that puts all the cards on the table in chaotic fashion while still offering a few more surprises.
