The Worst Person In The World premiered at Cannes 2021 to widespread critical acclaim, with Renate Reinsve winning the Palme d’Or for Best Actress. At the 94th Academy Awards, the film was nominated for Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay.
THE PROTAGONISTS
The Protagonists (Crime, Thriller) – Streaming on January 1

The Protagonists is Luca Guadagino’s first feature film, and follows an actress (Tilda Swinton) who takes an Italian film crew on a tour of London, recounting a senseless real-life murder that occurred just two years previous. The culprits were two upper-class teenagers from Oxford, driven by delusions with the intent to kill. The crew reconstructs the crime. Guadagnino has continued to captivate audiences throughout his career, with last year’s Challengers and Queer most recently earning Golden Globe nominations. He is set to direct an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel American Psycho, promising a new take on the cult classic.

Nelson Carlos de los Santos Arias won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 2024 Berlinale for Pepe which explores themes of colonialism, identity, memory and migration through an unconventional protagonist and narrator: a hippopotamus named Pepe. Beginning in Southern Africa and moving to South America, Pepe narrates his eventful life from being owned by Colombian drug baron Pablo Escobar to his final days roaming free.

A famous Spanish actor, Julio Arenas, disappears while shooting a film. Although his body is never found, the police conclude that he’s been the victim of an accident by the sea. The case is revisited years later, sparking an exploration of memory, loss and cinematic legacy. Close Your Eyes is director Victor Erice’s fourth feature film, and his first narrative feature in 31 years. The film premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
THE NEON DEMON

Sixteen year old aspiring model Jesse (Elle Fanning) moves to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams and quickly finds herself working with some of the city’s top designers and photographers. But her innocence and youth make her a target of her fellow models, who are willing to go to any lengths to possess Jesse’s X factor. The Neon Demon also stars Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone and Abbey Lee. The hypnotic, trance-like soundtrack by Cliff Martinez earned The Neon Demon the Best Composer Award at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
FIRST REFORMED
First Reformed (Drama, Thriller) – Streaming January 1
Dir. Paul Schrader, 2017
Ernst Toller, a troubled priest of a small church in upstate New York, begins to spiral out of control after a soul-shaking encounter with Mary and her unstable environmental activist husband. Consumed by thoughts that the world is in danger, Toller embarks on a perilous self-assigned undertaking. First Reformed premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2017, and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards in 2019. The film stars Ethan Hawke (Boyhood, Training Day) and Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls, Les Misérables).
