The main focus, as the first season of MobLand has come to an end, has been the future, but through a series of small moves, the goal has remained mostly unclear. But now, with this season finale, that pictures has become clearer though it moves forward with one step still in the past. That being said, those expecting some finality will get what they have been asking for while not quite creating the cleanest of jumping points, come a presumptive season two (that decision remains to be seen). As far as Harry and Kevin were concerned, they were in charge. However, clearing the playing field did come with some challenges, leaving a few figures to linger in the future. While the dynamic may have changed, plenty of carryover drama and tension was in the air as characters are forced to reconcile with what has happened and/or what will happen and plot a course for themselves moving forward. Creating a number of plot threads to resolve, the season finale was not without faults when it comes to resolving them in a satisfying fashion, perhaps kicking some further down the line. All things considered, Tom Hardy and Paddy Considine make for a compelling dynamic, as Harry and Kevin, presenting a different perspective that could help freshen things up, should the series be renewed for another season.
The road for Kevin, and reclaiming his own narrative, of course ended with him killing his abuser in the last episode but the residual effect of this appeared to have given him new life and the confidence to confront the other troubling facets of his life. Though when everything is set and done, it is time to clean up and move on. Next on the docket was the rat in the Harrigan family. While Maeve has been known to let things slip, the rat was revealed to be the family lawyer O’Hara Delaney (Lisa Dwan) who smartly confessed to Harry about feeding information to Richie Stevenson. Finding some use in her, he had a plan to use her against him. Setting a trap for Richie and his forces, they were single handedly removed from the board in one foul swoop, as well as O’Hara.
Kevin’s newfound confidence led him to confront Conrad in prison about what he did to him while laying down the law about how times are going to change now that he was in charge. Meanwhile, the corrupting power of Maeve knows no bounds. Leading Eddie to visit her in prison, she told him the truth about Conrad being his real father and her strange relationship with him was actually her trying to groom him into the next leader of the family. Regardless, this revelation led him to further spiral. Learning the news of the Stevensons demise, Maeve somehow took credit for it, claiming it to be a test for everyone else.
Tattersall, having successfully sent Conrad and Maeve Harrington to prison, was unwilling to share in that success, believing to have eliminated those aware of his plan. However, Harry and Kevin possessed a recording of Alice admitting to the coverup. Kat McAllister, on the other hand, looked to take advantage of Conrad and Maeve’s ousting and eliminate the Harrigan family, presumably to take over their criminal enterprise. Offering Harry the opportunity to join her, he remained committed to the Harrigans, specifically Kevin, and declined, making himself an enemy.
Besides Conrad fitting in nicely in prison, the end of the episode took different turns around the main two couples and their respective traumas. As opposed to Kevin and Bella who bonded over hers, after the elicit meeting she set up for her abusive father got him arrested, Harry and Jan fought over theirs. Fed up over hers, Jan lashed out with a knife for which she accidentally stabbed Harry with. Unfazed by the knife in his chest, the season ends on a cliffhanger. But if the series were to continue, it would certainly have to have Tom Hardy still involved, so take that with a grain of salt.
