Fantasia Fest 2026: The Last Temptation of Becky Review

Seemingly turned into a franchise now, Lulu Wilson returns as Becky Hooper in the third installment of the ‘Becky’ saga, The Last Temptation of Becky. Following her premiere of The Sacrifice Game at the festival, writer-director Jenn Wexler returns to Fantasia as she takes over the latest installment in this unexpected trilogy. After fighting gangs and Neo-Nazis, the end of the previous film, The Wrath of Becky, saw Agent Montana (Kate Siegel) recruiting Becky for the CIA.

Here, Wexler continues this heightened twist, opening with Becky on a crucial mission that highlights her unreliable, wildcard nature. In jeopardy of losing her job as an agent, she is assigned to go undercover to investigate actual Nazis, led by General Wilhelm Reuss (Harris). Wilson persists an effective portrayal of a determined, rebellious Becky who is still trying to find purpose after the events of the first film turned her life upside down – while the screenplay unfortunately does not enlighten us with true means of character development or resolution for this tale.

Harris’ casting continues the franchise’s trend of deliberately casting conventionally comedic actors – including Kevin James and Seann William Scott in the previous films – into these despicable characters. Despite Harris’ previous experiences of portraying vile characters in A Series of Unfortunate Events or more recently, Dexter: Resurrection, his over-the-top depiction provides an undistinguished presence outside his face-offs with Becky as the rest of General Reuss’ family become much more compelling and enriched foes that Becky clashes with.

Becky and The Wrath of Becky had the ability to rely on the isolated essence of its story to hide the low-budget nature of their productions. This installment’s ambitious story exposes the kind of deficient production design and noticeable visual effects that make this third film feel like an incredible downgrade compared to the previous films. Despite these evident flaws, Becky’s carnage is entertaining enough to get audiences to tune out these issues. Along with Wilson’s portrayal of a feisty and gutsy Becky, audiences can still have fun with the film’s satisfying mayhem throughout.

In the end, Jenn Wexler’s The Last Temptation of Becky is a significant quality downgrade, as Becky’s story begins to go international. However, Lulu Wilson’s persistent portrayal of spunky Becky, and the satisfying carnage that she brings, is enough to keep audiences interested in this action thriller.
