We're All Gonna Die was an arguably too heavy but still satisfying character episode with a surplus of subplots that would provide satisfying moments though would stall the season as a whole.

Synopsis: During therapy, a young Annalise is forced to acknowledge a very emotional and pivotal reality that makes her admit a hard truth. Meanwhile, a brutally beaten Frank returns home with a secret to share about Laurel’s disappearance. Elsewhere in an attempt to get to know her father, Michaela accepts an offer to work alongside him but quickly learns that it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be. (IMDb)

We’re All Gonna Die was a heavy (perhaps too heavy) subplot episode that went in many directions, including what happened to Frank, so keep up.

The episode started with Annalise listening to her therapy tapes with Sam where things got racy (she was definitely coming on to him but there was attraction there). Then Annalise got the news of what happened to Frank. Meanwhile, we got a flashback to what happened to Frank after Xavier confronted him (there would be more spread throughout the episode). He claimed to not be involved in Laurel’s disappearance. Xavier was trying to find her himself and was following Frank in the hopes that he would lead him to her. Suffice it to say that Frank was not willing to help and this would pretty much be what led to him getting beat up in the first place, unsurprisingly.

Annalise wasn’t happy about the FBI’s offered deal to Nate which he refused (she believed Tegan was innocent). Frank woke up briefly to say Laurel before he was whisked off to surgery. Back to the Frank flashback, Xavier told him that he had an FBI informant in their group. Frank replied by mocking him which earned him his first beating. The others were not exactly thrilled when they learned the news of what happened to Frank. Oliver in particular found himself in Connor’s crosshairs for keeping stuff from him (there may be trust issues there). Another Frank flashback saw Xavier reveal that the woman who Frank thought was Laurel was another Castillo sister (his further refusal to help led to him being electrocuted).

Michaela and Vick (Ray Campbell) were hashing out their issues. She was not happy with him being absent but he didn’t want to interfere with her promise. In fact, Vick wanted Michaela to be her business partner for his new women’s initiative (she was skeptical). Though she scolded him some more, all she seemed to want was his money (he gave her a blank cheque as a test). Asher’s issues with his sister Chloe (Kelen Coleman) were not over yet either. She wanted him to see their depressed and borderline suicidal mother (who was more involved in his life than he realized) but he wanted nothing to do with them. Chloe would make a surprise visit to the others and was not impressed (though it was nice to see Michaela stand up for him).

Another Frank flashback saw him sort of seeing Xavier discuss something with an associate in the doorway of the room where he was being held. Meanwhile, Tegan and her ex-wife Cora (Mercedes Mason) still had their divorce to settle (there were still plenty of issues between them). Tegan still had feelings for Cora but Cora did not for Tegan. She would later show up at Annalise’s drunk and emotional (she admired Annalise).

Annalise called Gabriel over to talk about the tapes and what they meant for his relationship with Sam. She thought he would give her the kind of life she always wanted (Sam wanted Gabriel so much that he wanted to recreate that with Annalise). Meanwhile, Tegan took another shot at Cora and appeared to finally get some closure (and also sign their divorce papers). Chloe also tried to warn Asher about his new friends. Frank woke up again but he was still struggling. Apparently Frank was saying Laurel to Annalise earlier because he believed she helped Laurel flee thanks to her secret bank account (another flashback saw Xavier tell that to Frank for which Annalise denied).

Annalise’s secret bank account (for which Vick appeared to have provided) was recently cleared out (she also told him that it was time to pay up). Meanwhile. Asher finally went home to see his mother while Michaela made up with Gabriel.

The flashforward scene saw Tegan attempt to see her client (presumably Annalise) but it was now a crime scene.

The character moments were nice but we are nowhere closer to the main mystery of the season.
