After a serious hiatus, Candyman is back and seeking to wreck havoc on a now gentrified Chicago, back where the legend began in 1992.
Remember the game Candyland that was fun, joyful and an all around good time? Well, Candyman is the polar opposite. One leaves you smiling, the other will leave you dead. From the mind of producer Jordan Peele comes a new tale about the man who appears after you say his name 5 times in front of a mirror.
Kudos to whoever put this trailer together and decided to sync it with “Say My Name”by Destiny Child. Director Nia DeCosta has crafted something unique and chilling here. The visuals are pretty great throughout the trailer and Yahya Abdul-Manteen looks like the perfect new leading man for this franchise. The death toll seems high, but it doesn’t just look like your cut and dry slasher. It’s leaning more on a psychological side of things.
You can sense the Peele flare and honestly some of the colour schemes used in the trailer felt very reminiscent of Us. 2020 is shaping up to be a pretty great year for horror movies. I’m certain Candyman will be a worthy addition to Peele’s already impressive resume.

Another needless remake. I thought horror was already beyond this shameful remaking factory.

We’ve run out of ideas. In 15 years, there’ll be remakes of remakes. The movie looks good though.
