Let's Hurt Him simply added one more wrinkle to the equation as more answers lead to more questions. This roller coaster has to come down soon.

Synopsis: Annalise is forced to fight for her life while Gabriel approaches Michaela, Connor and Oliver with a theory about Sam’s murder. Frank and Bonnie have a heart-to-heart. (IMDb)

This new episode of How to Get Away With Murder was yet again another roller coaster episode but one would think that the writers would reign it in at some point as things are starting to get out of control in terms of the central mystery consuming this final season. This back half of the season continues to add pieces but now they should start to go together very soon.

Let’s Hurt Him began where the last episode left off with Gabriel sharing the news that Asher was killed by the FBI. Unfortunately, it was not well-received by Connor, Oliver, and Michaela, accusing him of ulterior motives and making them paranoid (like they didn’t have enough of a reason to be). Meanwhile, Robert came back into the picture to help Annalise and/or get closer to her (calling out Tegan for doing the latter but she later shared her feelings with Annalise). Tegan also got Annalise’s house arrest area expand to C&G (and she was done with being left out of Annalise’s inner circle). However, the prosecution also intended to make her case a capital one, allowing them to seek the death penalty (and they were serious about it).

Things got worse for Annalise with the return of Vivian who shared Gabriel’s suspicion with her (without Gabriel’s knowledge) which would help her with her case. She also wanted her to protect Gabriel in exchange for more information but Annalise was understandably skeptical. The news of Annalise potentially getting the death penalty caused Connor and Michaela to reconsider their immunity deals (despite others warning them against it). Meanwhile, Gabriel confronted Vivian who shared a connection between Frank and Hannah Keating (the latter was not a good person). He also tried to get the truth about Sam from Connor, Oliver, and Michaela in exchange for not telling Annalise about the deals they made and failed.

Frank tracked down Agent Pollock (Deborah Levin) which also led him to Xavier Castillo for which he was much more interested in, taking him hostage. While Xavier tried to play mind games, Frank eventually had his way him. He admitted that Pollock worked for him. Annalise let Nate take a crack at him too in exchange for testifying for her instead of against her. Meanwhile, Annalise held a press conference to pressure the public into forcing a meeting with a department of justice committee that could take the death penalty off the table (it worked). Just in time, Connor and Michaela gave her a recording as evidence of the FBI’s involvement in Asher’s murder (which she already knew about). They shared that they were the informants and how they were sorry.

When it looked like the DOJ committee would rule to maintain the death penalty, Annalise pulled out a recording she made of her last meeting with Connor and Michaela and she won. While that was happening, Nate was having his way with Xavier who admitted his involvement with Birkhead (it was all her idea to get back at Annalise) and his father (who he offered help to get to). This wasn’t enough for him. Xavier did not want to die but Nate had enough and snapped his neck (obviously not part of the plan).

The episode ended with Vivian telling Annalise that Hannah Keating was the one who started this war against her, not the FBI or Birkhead. Something happened between her and Sam.

That Hannah reveal and the prospects of a much larger conspiracy is just too much with just 3 episodes left in the series. While the prospects of Marcia Gay Harden coming back is exciting, the writers should focus more on sticking the landing because they’re just making it harder for themselves.
