Synopsis: Konstantin tries to run; Eve and Villanelle try to work out what the future may hold for them. (IMDb)
Well everyone certainly brought their A-game to the season 3 finale of Killing Eve. Maybe we didn’t get all the resolution we were looking for but it was certainly thrilling to watch and especially well-acted. Regardless of how this season has gone, it would be a shame if at least 2 of the big 3 actresses end up with Emmys.
Are You Leading or Am I? began with Villanelle meeting Carolyn at the Royal Albert Hall in London (the latter was already there for a concert) where she finally accepted Carolyn’s job offer as she was looking for a challenge (Carolyn knew all the latest about her), however, she was interested in doing some different work. Obviously, killing people was what she did best so it’s hard to imagine her succeeding at anything else despite the fact that she appeared to show a willingness to change. Villanelle continued to strike out, offering no insight on who killed Kenny or Mo. Meanwhile back in Scotland, Konstantin had had enough with the hospital. Dasha, meanwhile, was going to say her peace before he left as the two has a philosophical argument about Villanelle. That argument appeared to be all that she had left as she struggled and passed away as Konstantin left the room.
Eve met Villanelle at a tango club (also the site of her first London kill) as she contemplated about the past while Eve was stuck on the present. Their subsequent intimate dance was cut short by the appearance of Rhian which could only mean something not good. In this case, Helene wanted to see her. The much different Rhian had no patience for Villanelle’s antics but in the end, there was only so much Villanelle can take as a switch flipped within her and Rhian paid the price. With Konstantin’s note that Villanelle gave Eve, she went to look for the money. Despite some awkwardness on her part and some resistance, she got it which was kind of underwhelming. Meanwhile, Carolyn had had enough of Geraldine and her feelings. There was a part of her that still cared though her way of expressing it was never going to work.
Carolyn later got news from the Bitter Pill team that Kenny was seen on video with Konstantin the day he died. Konstantin and his fragile state also showed up to intercept the package Eve retrieved which was a set of nesting dolls with a barcode leading to money among other things. She was unwilling to hand it over so he called Villanelle who also showed up at Bitter Pill (they were scared to say the least) and wanted Eve to hold on to it. Konstantin wanted them to meet but first Paul wanted to see him after accusing him of stealing from the twelve account.
An angry Carolyn (Fiona Shaw is the MVP of the season) initiated the meeting which Villanelle also showed up for. Paul claimed to be working undercover but that’s hard to believe. Konstantin admitted to being on the rooftop with Kenny but only to warn him that he was getting too close to the twelve and to save him by convincing him to work for the twelve. Kenny got nervous and continued to walk backwards towards the ledge and the rest was history. However, Carolyn did not believe him. She had Konstantin on his knees and was about to pull the trigger until his plea to Villanelle for help appeared to convince her to reconsider and shoot Paul in the head instead before letting him go (Villanelle didn’t want to go with him). Mo’s evidence proved Paul’s guilt and Carolyn ultimately blamed herself for Kenny’s death. She came to terms with the fact that the twelve could not be stopped (but Eve clearly felt otherwise).
Villanelle caught up with Eve as they had a thoughtful conversation about where they were in their lives as their monsters encouraged each other. Eve wanted Villanelle’s help to stop so stood back to back and began to walk away without looking back and it wasn’t easy because they each looked back at one another.
An inevitable yet beautiful end. Wherever it goes from here remains to be seen (the twelve are still around) but Eve and Villanelle will definitely be there and hopefully Carolyn will too!
