The Walking Dead (10×18) Find Me Review

Synopsis: An adventure for Daryl and Carol turns sideways when they come across an old cabin. It takes Daryl back to the days when he left the group after Rick disappeared as he relives the time that only the apocalypse could manifest. (IMDb)

So basically, how Daryl got Dog. A deeper dive into Daryl is a nice premise but it didn’t go deep enough or maybe Norman Reedus can’t get there? Carol was also in for the ride but their chemistry can only go so far. Meanwhile, a new character made things interesting but they were so thin that it pretty much didn’t matter.

Find Me began with Daryl and Carol heading out on an adventure, being the old married couple they are, budding heads and hunting. But the current situation was hard to ignore. Dog found something interesting, an old cabin in the forest that triggered a memory from Daryl. That memory was part of something from five years earlier, back during Daryl’s lone wolf phase where he was looking for Rick. The elements proved treacherous at times. Now one year later, Daryl was led to a house (the same one as in the present) in the middle of a forest with walkers on the inside and a woman with a shotgun whose named was later revealed to be Leah (Lynn Collins).

Back to the present, Carol was catching up. Daryl was held captive. Daryl’s dog was Leah’s and it led him to her though she saw him as an intruder. However, she let him go. Six months after that, that same dog showed up and Daryl brought him back once again. Later finding himself in a bad situation full of walkers, Leah saved him. Three months after that, Daryl came back to help but all Leah wanted was to be left alone as she was adamant that she could take care of herself. Nevertheless, there was a connection there and they only got closer as the episode progressed. More than just two people doing their thing by themselves.

Leah had a son (but really a nephew) and a past history but it was all gone now, eventually ending up where she was. Dog was her new child and she had not seen anyone since then until Daryl. Ten months after that, there was friction in the relationship. Daryl still had some figuring out to do and had to choose and we kind of already knew how that went. His relationship with Carol saw similar tension. She was worried about him for understandable reasons. Daryl wrote Leah a note telling her to find him but we also kind of knew how that went.

In the present, Daryl was worried about not having done enough for Leah but now it was the time for he and Carol to deal with their issues that started long before that day, stemming from guilt about the people they lost and what they did or could have done to try and prevent that. Things got heated and there were regrets that seemed to have been made in the moment. Night was coming so they still had to deal with each other. The episode ended there which felt abrupt which felt weird.

So this was essentially a filler episode. With the announcement of 6 more season 10 episodes before the final season, it would imply that the series will be setting up some sort of endgame but so far nothing. Is that a surprise? Not really but things should start to head in that direction.
