Indie films revolving around dysfunctional characters are common place because life and people are dysfunctional which is what the real world is truly like and many audiences have consistently gravitated to them as they find themselves relating to characters and storylines, That being said, there are clearly different stages of dysfunction therefore finding the right balance is key in order to appeal to the widest audience possible though it’s impossible to satisfy everyone. Fully Realized Humans is a short but sweet indie comedy, clocking in at only 76 minutes, putting a dysfunctional couple at its center and to its credit, it works for the most part. This wasn’t necessarily because of its story which wasn’t new by any means but rather because of the chemistry of Jess Weixler and Joshua Leonard who co-wrote the script while the latter directed the film.

Fully Realized Humans tells the story of Jackie (Weixler) and Elliot (Leonard), a couple who were mere weeks away from the birth of their first child. Before the arrival of that child, the two embarked on a journey of self-discovery in order to overcome their respective dysfunctions and become fully realized humans (hence the title). From there, the hijinks ensued and through their trials and tribulations, the couple became closer. Sure, there could have been more hijinks and a deeper exploration into said dysfunctions but there were surely valid reasons for that. Nevertheless, Jackie and Elliot were fun to watch together despite not everything working. Their chemistry was undeniable and their script was strong as both worked hand-in-hand.

In the end, those looking for a quick yet satisfying watch won’t go wrong with Fully Realized Humans.
