Riverdale (5×13) Reservoir Dogs Review

Synopsis: While helping Eric deal with his PTSD, Archie is forced to confront his own past trauma in the Army. To find the Lonely Highway killer, Betty and Tabitha come up with a way to lure truckers to Pop’s. (IMDb)

Coming off of last week’s mostly-standalone episode, it’s time to get back to business as this week’s episode of Riverdale was a busy one and a heavy one. That being said, it wasn’t without its moments. Maybe the writers could have narrowed things down but this is Riverdale after all so keep up.

Reservoir Dogs began with an Archie flashback from his time in the Army as PTSD will be one of the subplots in the episode. Meanwhile, Betty and Tabitha were on the case of the Lonely Highway Killer though unfortunately for Betty, she was exposed for no longer being an FBI agent. Cheryl meddled in Kevin’s life by trying to fill the void inside him by steer him towards she and her mother’s new church. Reggie helped Veronica pivot her business strategy which was a new stock firm.

The answer to the PTSD subplot for which Archie’s friend Eric (Sommer Carbuccia) was suffering may be dogs for which Archie and his platoon had a history with. Things took a turn once they uncovered a dog fighting ring so of course they had to do something about that so Archie beat up the ringleader while the others freed his dogs and eventually found them homes,  However, Archie also had some issues of his own for which he needed help.

Kevin was skeptical of the Blossom church but trying to get some closure with Fangs, he found him with Moose which got awkward before they eventually mended their differences. He ultimately found a purpose as the new artistic director of the Blossom’s new church just in time for he and Cheryl to perform a selection from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Veronica and Reggie were lining up investors left and right with Reggie using his salesman skills to their advantage. Running out of leads, Reggie steered them towards Hiram’s Sodale investors who were not seeing returns on their investments (it was just a front for Hiram’s palladium scheme).

The answer for Betty and Tabitha was to lure truckers to Pop’s and what better way than to put on a Coyote Ugle type show at the Whyte Wyrm below? Veronica and Cheryl joined Betty and Tabitha to take part in the show and Alice managed things while Kevin and Fangs checked the trucks, The goal was recon. However, Betty’s big lead didn’t come until the night was over when one more trucker showed up and propositioned her. Though things got dicey, Betty got the upper hand in the end.

Though this episode was a little bit of everything, it didn’t really go anywhere in the grand scheme, hopefully that changes come next week.
