Stop Dragon My Heart Around was a penultimate episode that was still satisfying despite taking a bit of a detour to get there.

So the penultimate episode of the first season of Peacemaker was mostly a detour which isn’t necessarily the worst thing after how the last episode ended. That being said, they will have to face what happened then but this episode for the most part did a great job at tying up some lose ends and developing character arcs in order to position characters for what will come in next week’s season finale. And that doesn’t mean that this episode didn’t have its moments as the endgame will be killing the cow thus starving the butterflies.

Auggie Smith is not a nice guy and the beginning of this episode cemented that as he was the reason he held so much resentment against his son. Seemingly as a means to toughen up his children, he had them fight each other as the other adults watched. It was only inevitable that things would go too far and they did as a young Chris (Quinn Bennett) hit his older brother Keith (Liam Hughes) just a little too hard and killed him.

Back to the present, despite everything that just happened, Peacemaker and Vigilante were focused on the mission which was to kill the cow. Economos, who didn’t just want to let them go, begrudgingly tagged along and drove. However, they were sidetracked by Auggie with his White Dragon supersuit and his gang who had their target set on Peacemaker, tracking him via his helmet through the forest. When it looked like they were safe, Vigilante found a way to comically ruin things again thus prompting another fight with Economos saving the day once again. In the end, Peacemaker would eventually have to face his father but this time, he was ready this time. However, it still wasn’t easy.

Adebayo and Harcourt attempted to iron out their issues which served as the epitome of their dynamic. Over the course of the season, they softened up to one another as they started to see things from the other’s perspective. The planted diary was to set up Peacemaker as the fall guy thought that clearly didn’t matter anymore. As they and Murn were getting ready for the mission, Song and the butterfly police showed up. Murn and the butterfly inside him did not survive. Meanwhile, Judomaster previously escaped but came back after beating up some idiots at a convenience store. Harcourt continued to be a badass until Adebayo delivered the final blow.

As Eagly got hurt after battling Auggie, he got taken to a veterinarian which was where everybody finally met up. A nice call back from the premiere happened when Adebayo saw Eagly hug Peacemaker after she didn’t believe him the first time. Ultimately, they would need a new leader therefore Harcourt assumed the position (Jennifer Holland was great here and throughout the episode). The task force needed to move on the cow before the butterflies moved it anywhere via teleportation. They may not all be on the best of terms but they still had to work together as the episode ended with a glimpse of the infamous cow which was indeed huge.

Whatever happens, it’s not going to be easy but there’ll surely find a way which may or may not involve some surprises.
