Killing Eve (4×03) A Rainbow in Beige Boots Review

After starting with a bang, this final season has come back down with what was essentially a filler episode of sorts. It is definitely gearing up by planting seeds for something later in the road but that being said, it was not without its moments as Eve and Carolyn at different stages in their investigations of the Twelve and Villanelle continued her misguided redemption tour. When it came to the latter, there seemed to be some signs of sincerity there.

Following the events of the last episode, Villanelle took refuge in Eve’s hotel room, however, Eve had absolutely no time and did not care about whatever the former had going on. Either way, her investigation into the Twelve went on which meant keeping track of Helene. The next step was her girlfriend, or now ex-girlfriend Fernanda (Monica Lopera). The key might be her ex-husband for whom Helene was really interested in though Eve was certainly not going to make it easier for her. Meanwhile, Carolyn’s investigation led her to an attempted murder in Cuba connected to Scotland. The fact that a potential survivor exists is interesting to say the least.

Villanelle ambushed Eve’s therapist contact Martin (Adeel Akhtar) for some uncomfortable therapy. Her big issue was that she didn’t like how she felt and didn’t exactly trust her own thoughts and feelings at the moment but change is difficult and could be also uncomfortable and her acknowledgement of this was perhaps proof that she could indeed change. Villanelle was not quite a lost cause as she was trained to be who she was therefore she could possibly unlearn that training. Of course it was all about getting closer to Eve in the end as she sought her approval and/or recognition.

The funeral home attendant, Pam (Anjana Vasan) was one of Helene’s prospective assassins fighting to be noticed and respected. She was not going to take it anymore, taking out her frustration on her belittling brother which did not go unnoticed by Helene. She set her up with Konstantin.

Eve eventually connected the dots and confronted Villanelle. She came to her senses as the two chatted about the latter’s breakthrough as the police came in to arrest her, something Eve should have done a long time ago though it’s unlikely that she’ll be there for very long.
