It’s been 19 years and now they are finally back. When you thought the aliens were gone for good after the last film (spoiler), they (I assume they’re the same ones) are back for more. Of course with the passage of time, the United States government appears to be better prepared to deal with such a crisis. Seeing that this is a movie after all, it probably won’t be as easy as that sounds. A few of the characters from the first film are back for this installment including David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) and President Whitmore (Bill Pullman) but surprisingly no Will Smith’s Captain Steven Hiller. There are new characters in this film as well including Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth), Patricia Whitmore (Maika Monroe), and President Landford (Sela Ward). From what I’ve seen in the trailer so far, there will be a fair share of action (because they already know what to expect) and a lot of space exploration. I’m not sure how much carries over from the first film to the next but it definitely looks like it could stand on its own. I originally wasn’t too excited about this one but I am know. Independence Day: Resurgence will be released June 24th, 2016.
