Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger felt a bit anticlimactic this week as Tandy and Tyrone continue to explore their relationship as they discover their powers. It wasn’t exactly at the level I would have wanted, and fell short of expectations.

When the episode begins, Tandy is waking up after the car crash of last week that was caused because Tyrone teleported in front of her car. He tries to explain to her that he was in a different location but ended up there mysteriously.

Tandy goes back home to clean up after her accident and bumps into her mother who confronts her in the bathroom. In the midst of the argument, the detective shows up at their door looking for Tandy, but her mother claims she hasn’t Tandy in weeks, hoping that the detective is thrown off.

Luckily, Melissa’s boyfriend is a lawyer and tells the detective to leave unless she has a warrant. The detective shares that she is there because Tandy has been a victim of assault, but before Melissa can discuss this with her, Tandy leaves the house.

Tyrone bumps into Evita when he goes to speak to Father Delgado and she asks him to accompany her on a voodoo tour and introduces him to her aunt who owns a voodoo shop. She begins to examine him and tells him that he can take a special bath or give himself a concussion to explore what is going on with his powers.

Opting to try the bath, Tyrone experiences himself in a different level of existence where he is walking around and ends up on the roof of Roxxon Corporation where he sees young Tandy dancing around in her ballet outfit.

Simultaneously, Tandy and Tyrone both have vivid, graphic visions of the other, with Tandy witnessing different ways Tyrone tries to kill himself and Tandy is electrocuted. There comes a point where they both touch a stained glass wall and wake up from having the visions at the same time.

The detective and Tandy meet up later in the episode so Tandy can be updated on the status of her case. Because one of the other detectives tried to muck up evidence (unknowingly to everyone else), it let Tandy’s attacker roam free. Throughout the episode, a 3D printer is seen making a print of something, which we learn at the very end is a figure of Tyrone.

Tandy heads back to her church home where Tyrone confronts informing her that they need to talk. Oh, my.

This was a rather odd confusing episode, especially lacking the knowledge of the lore and background which only confounded the intensity of the visions and their meaning. It was just a pointless and unenjoyable random mix of scenes. Hopefully this is further clarified as episodes go on and we begin to see and understand more of the “cloak and dagger” aspect of this all. Until, next week!

Score: 6/10
