This had a great cast but this romantic comedy was ultimately sunk by a mediocre script, extremely convoluted story, and several tone shifts within a sub 90 minute running time. (original review)

This was perhaps the biggest surprise of 2017 for me, primarily because I wasn’t sure what to expect from first time director Jordan Peele. It may have been a horror but it wasn’t particularly scary in the traditional sense but more so for the commentary it makes about the African American culture. It was both gripping to watch and definitely worthy of all the recognition it has gotten through awards season. (original review)
Matt Damon definitely stuck out in a predominantly Chinese production. The production values were there but they couldn’t quite make up for the ridiculous B-movie story. It was difficult to ever get invested in the story or the characters since there was so much going on that it didn’t have time to develop any of the characters. Not a bad watch on a big screen though it will be far from memorable. (original review)
Weird is okay but there is such a thing as too much weird and this one definitely went too far. It started off decent enough but it simply fell apart and became a chore to watch because of all the weirdness and the excessive run time. Some people loved this film but I unfortunately wasn’t one of them. (original review)
The original Lego Movie is one of my favorite movies of all time so I was excited to see what a film featuring one of the best parts of that film, Will Arnett’s Batman, would look like. It was definitely one of the best films of 2017 and would’ve been my pick for the Best Animated Film Oscar if Coco didn’t exist. It also happens to be the best Batman film since Christopher Nolan’s Batman...
