Well I’ve been lookin’ real hard
And I’m tryin’ to find a job
But it just keeps gettin’ tougher every day
But I got to do my part cause I know in my heart
I got to please my sweet baby, yeah

Words have never been truer. I have previously mentioned that I worked as a cashier in a grocery store for nearly 7 years. Things now are not as good as they were when I once started. When I started, I lived across the street from it so you can imagine how easy it was for me to go back and forth from there to home. It would honestly take me a minute to walk from where I lived to there. I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve woken up less than 10 minutes from when my shift started and gotten ready and gone to work in time. Now that can’t happen. Seeing that I no longer wanted to live in a house with bed bugs (which were conveniently in my room), I moved somewhere else 6 months ago. Lucky enough for me, my new place is an hour away. Now I spend an hour each way while taking 2 buses to go to work every day. Most people would not mind doing this if they really liked their job. I on the other hand am not liking it as much as I used to. The last few years have been tough on me with people I liked coming and going with new people coming in and replacing the people who have left. It isn’t their fault they are just not the same. Also my manager and I have been growing distant over the last few years. There have been a lot of changes in my life and they have not been so understanding as they used to be. I think this may be because of the new store manager who started a few years ago. I don’t know why but he has had it out for me ever since he’s started. I do the same things every day and now I am starting to get tired of it. Because of all the things I mentioned, I’ve been looking for a new job ever since I moved 6 months ago.
At first my priority was to find a job that was closer to where I currently live. Being that I have retail store experience, I applied to every nearby retail establishment I could think of: Walmart (multiple locations), Canada Computers, Best Buy/Future Shop (multiple locations a few times), Ikea, Loblaws, Sobey’s (multiple locations), Staples (multiple locations), The Source (multiple locations), Bell Canada Stores, Shopper’s Drug Mart, and EB Games (multiple locations). Since I go to the movie theater often, I also applied to a few Cineplex movie theaters. I’ve actually received a few phone calls from some of these places but none of them ended up with a new job (I think this may be due to my lack of interview experience seeing that I have only ever had 1 job). Most of my applications, however, have not resulted in anything which is getting very frustrating for me causing me to become very depressed. If I were to choose somewhere to go, it would be Best Buy because I am a computer science major and I have always had a passion for electronics and computers and the such. I think I am well versed in electronics being that I own a computers (that I built), several video game consoles, multiple smartphones, multiple e-book readers. and a hard drive recorder (that I use religiously). People always seem to ask me for my advice for things like computer building, movies or tv shows to watch, and video games. One day I hope to put this to use somewhere because I think I would enjoy this more than what I am currently doing.
