The Free State of Jones is a story about about a Southern farmer named Newt Knight (Matthew McConaughey) during the Civil War who led a rebellion against the Confederacy. This is a very epic-looking film with your Civil War army battles and good old-fashioned southerness. Knight seems like a very inspirational leader-type which does not come as much of a surprise and he seems to do it well here. I haven’t seen too many Civil War movies (the last being Lincoln which I thought was good but not great) so I’m not quite against them yet. McConaughey looked good and the story seemed compelling enough so this one may be worth a look. Free State of Jones releases May 13th, 2016.
