You’ve seen other writers make their picks now last but certainly not least, it’s my turn so without further ado, here are my personal picks for the top 10 best and worst films of 2018 (along with some honorable/dishonorable mentions).

Best Films of 2018

2018 was an interesting year for film – it was a great year for animation, a continued renaissance for independent filmmaking, and another stand out year for foreign films and documentaries. If anything, the wide variety of films I was able to see this year really pleased me, as a lot of different genres and mediums that I usually find unavailable rendered a lot of my favorites of the year!

Honorable Mentions: Disney’s Christopher Robin, Green Book, The Old Man and the Gun

10 – Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

9 – Paddington 2

8 – Thunder Road

7 – Mid90s

6 – Isle of Dogs

5 – Eighth Grade

4 – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

3 – Roma

2 – The House That Jack Built

1 – The Favourite

Worst Films of 2018

As with every year, amongst the great films come a lot of really bad ones. There were dramas that didn’t work, comedies that weren’t funny, sloppy sequels and boring bio-pics. Here are my picks the worst films of the year.

Dishonorable mentions: Mary Queen of Scots, Venom, Solo: A Star Wars Story

10 – Tag

9 – Most Likely to Murder

8 – Blockers

7 – The Hate U Give

6 – Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

5 – Hold The Dark

4 – Jinn

3 – 22 July

2 – The Cloverfield Paradox

1 – Prospect
