You’ve seen other writers make their picks but it’s my turn so now, here are my personal picks for the top 10 best and worst films of 2018. Stay tuned for more picks from our other writers.

Best Films of 2018

This was a very special year for me, not just because I moved to Canada but especially because I had the chance to watch a lot of movies that totally surprised me. Some came out of nowhere and moved me deeply (Shoplifters, Lean on Pete), some I wasn’t expecting much and was totally surprised by (Mary Poppins Returns), some gave me even more than what I was looking for (A Star is Born, The Favourite) and some just made me have a lot of fun (A Quiet Place, Black Panther) , and there’s nothing wrong with that! I especially miss not having Mission Impossible Fallout on this list, but, you can’t have 11 picks on your top 10 list.

10. A Fantastic Woman

9. Black Panther

8. Mary Poppins Returns

7. Bingo King of the Mornings

6. A Quiet Place

5. A Star is Born

4. The Favourite

3. If Beale Street Could Talk

2. Lean on Pete

1. Shoplifters

Worst Films of 2018

Some bad movies are way worse than others. Take Fifty Shades of Greed, for example. You don’t expect much of it (if anything, actually). It’s still bad, but it’s not really offensive. It’s just… meh. The same goes for Skyscraper. But when a movie tries to be something, selling itself that way and fails horribly, it makes things way worse. This is especially frustrating when movies like Aquaman or Venom treat us like idiots. There’s no excuses anymore for so many mistakes in superhero movies. Let’s see what 2019 brings us…

10. Tomb Raider

9. Winchester

8. The Girl in the Spider’s Web

7. Skyscraper

6. A Wrinkle in Time

5. Venom

4. Fifty Shades Freed

3. Bright

2. Aquaman
