The season 3 finale of This Is Us was great because it didn't end on a dramatic note or cliffhanger, and left us with just enough to ponder through the next few months. We learned so much more about the future and it will be exciting to learn more about what happens with Kevin, and why the heck it feels like Toby and Kate are not together in the future.

How are we already at the season 3 finale of This Is Us? The better question is, why are we already here? Time has flown by this season and once again we find ourselves at the point where all shows are getting ready to take their summer break. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to wish that This Is Us could just go on forever on a continual basis with no breaks. We will miss the show dearly during the hiatus.

“Her” answered a lot of questions for us, and it wasn’t as sad as anticipated, which is a wonderful thing! But don’t forget that we are talking about This Is Us, and it would be nothing without its difficult moments which include Rebecca getting into a car accident in the past. There’s not a whole lot of focus on this storyline but it parallels something in the future timeline where we discover the “her” Tess and old Randall were referring to was a dying Rebecca. But in the past, Rebecca just gets bruised up and injured and pulls through, but the kids and Jack have a difficult time without her.

In the present timeline, Kate and Toby’s baby boy, Jack, is about two weeks old and well on his way to developing properly. In fact, he’s able to breathe on his own without the ventilator and just needs the occasional nudge or tap on his foot to alert his body to breathe if it momentarily stops. With Rebecca and Miguel’s plans to move to California, Rebecca is all about learning the ins and outs of taking care of baby Jack, something Kate is annoyed about at first. After she finally snaps at Rebecca, she realizes her mother is the perfect person to help her and she later apologizes for behaving that way with her.

The Kevin and Zoe storyline has officially come to a close, ladies and gentlemen. It was a tough loss for everyone but it makes logical sense. Zoe doesn’t want kids, Kevin does, and even though he says he’s okay with not having them, it becomes clear that this is truly not the case. In fact, when he and Zoe go to babysit Randall’s girls later, he begins talking about kids with Zoe again, telling her that she might change her mind because Rebecca once felt the same too, and went on to be an amazing mother. But that’s not Zoe’s plan and with that, they both part ways.

Alright, now let’s talk about Beth and Randall. Some episodes ago, we saw a flash forward that alluded to Beth and Randall being a part in the future. But rest assured, this was far from the truth, although their present situation presented something else. After being at each other’s throats over everything, Beth and Randall finally come to an understanding in the season 3 finale.

They both decide to make sacrifices, but they ultimately find one that suits everyone. Beth decides they are going to move to Philly so it will be easier on Randall when he starts in office and she will purchase a dance studio that she can run on her own. The money will be tight, it’s going to be difficult, but when they work together, nothing can stop them from taking over the world. Who else took a huge sigh of relief when the future Beth and Randall greet each other with a kiss? Phew, they really had us scared there for a moment.

The best parts of the episode came with the reveal that Kevin does indeed have kids in the future (as we see in the flash-forward) and it was Deja that helped Randall realize just how lucky he was and to fight for Beth. To put it into perspective, she takes him to one of her old foster homes where the parents would spend the money on scratchers instead of feeding all the kids. She wants Randall to know that he won the lottery twice, first with being adopted into a good family and secondly, by having Beth in his life. This is enough to help salvage Randall’s side of things, and enough to make him realize what truly matters.

The final moments of the finale reveal a very sick Rebecca lying in bed in the flash-forward with someone sitting next to her. One would assume it would be Miguel until Randall walks in and says, “Hello, Nicky”. Say what?! Yes, that happened, and no, we don’t know why or how he ends up reconnecting with the family. Sigh, this hiatus is going to suck.

Until next season, folks!
