Synopsis: In her quest to bring down the sex trafficking ring, Tandy finds herself in a difficult and strange situation. (TVGuide)

This episode of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is a personal favorite. It’s not because something happy happens or something exciting, it’s actually a rather sad episode. We last left Tandy in an ambulance after she was tased and kidnapped by Lia. The dream aspect of the story continues in this episode but gives us different realities of Tandy’s life. One we saw glimpses of in last week’s episode, but this week we’re given a few more. The reality where everything is okay was nice but that’s just not how life goes, which is what makes this series so special and worth watching.

We see a man in the same record store that Tandy stumbled across a couple episodes ago and it appears every time the record is changed, Tandy is forced to live a different version of her life each time. In the “perfect” reality, Tyrone’s brother doesn’t die and instead, they all end up saving Tandy and her dad’s life. In a strange plot twist, Connors ends up being an important person in Tyrone’s life and mentors him until Tyrone joins the NYPD. Meanwhile, Tandy is doing ballet for the New York City Ballet, and her parents seem to be doing much better.

But this version shifts as soon as Tandy and Ty go to a convenience store and are shot at which jolts Tandy into another version of her life in which she works as an engineer for Roxxon. This time around, Ty works at the rig and is the first to notice something strange is going on. When things go sideways, the Tandy/Ty touch once again causes a jolt between them. We are quickly taken to the present in which Tandy is heavily sedated with whatever Lia is giving her. Goodness, who is this woman?

The third version of Tandy’s life is one in which she is an activist trying to fight for the lives of shorebirds. But in this version, Tandy is still the sneaky little robber we met when the series first started. She attempts to steal a man’s wallet as she gets him to sign the petition, but when he comes running after her, she bumps into Ty once again who is in the middle of stealing a car.

Given that it’s the third time she’s experiencing all of this, Tandy begins to have a breakdown as she is being dragged across all the different versions. She’s fighting so hard against the sedative but it’s not enough to pull her out of this nightmare. Tandy finds herself at the record store once again but this time face-to-face with Andre. It appears he was trying to commit suicide just as the rig explosion happened all those years ago. Due to the explosion, Andre gained the ability to steal hope from people.

After smashing the record Andre was playing, Tandy wakes up in the ambulance. We think that this is her real life and celebrate when she manages to get away. But then, Ty is shot and our hearts collectively shatter. Is this real life? What is going on? Can there be a Dagger without a Cloak?

There is good and bad news. Good news is that this was just another version of Tandy’s life and Tyrone is actually alive, but the bad news is that Andre has finally broken Tandy down–and now she is trapped in the darkness.

A heavy episode, right?
