Synopsis: Michael and Eleanor discover something troubling and turn to an unusual source for help; Tahani lends her expertise to assist with one of the new residents. (IMDb)
This week’s episode of The Good Place, entitled Chillaxing, required a team effort which was only to its benefit as it tapped into each character in a compelling way, including Janet with plenty of funny lines and Jason as the arguable comic relief, that was fun to watch despite the humor feeling a little recycled.
The episode started with Eleanor and Michael witnessing a much different Chidi. He just wasn’t quite the same as he didn’t have to face any stress or pressure so it was up to Eleanor to torture him a little with Michael trying to stop her from going too far. Who better than Jason, infiltrating Chidi’s philosophy class as himself (but as a monk)? Meanwhile, Tahani’s (who was name dropping more than usual) plan to help John was to take him on a spa day but it didn’t work.
Jason’s overbearing personality was getting to Chidi (he lied to protect Jason’s not-so-secret identity). Eleanor’s plan was to motivate him by making him as miserable as possible. He faced an internal conflict that he asked Eleanor and Michael for help with. She got upset since she also didn’t like what she was doing to him because she still had feeling for him (she liked torturing him because she was angry that he left her when he got his memory erased though she also felt guilty for it which made her angry but Chidi was the one she went to when she was angry). Eleanor’s plan worked as Chidi was convinced to teach Jason ethics. Meanwhile, Tahani had to try to appeal to John on more of a personal level but she had to learn to come down to his level though they weren’t as far apart as she thought. This approach ultimately worked as human connection would be his way to go.
The episode ended with death hitching his was to the good place.
