We’ve been waiting for Batwoman to take things to the next level, and we sort of got it in this week’s episode. Before the hiatus, we left the series with one major complication. The Beth from another world and the evil Alice from this world could not co-exist–one had to die in order for the other to live.

Take Your Choice focuses primarily on figuring out how to fix this issue, but it proves to be more difficult than Team Kate was hoping. As they come to learn, one has to die, and there is no way around it, as much as Kate might want that. She’s faced with the impossible decision to pick between two versions of her sister. Should she go with the evil she’s always known or the version that could have been? It’s this decision that ultimately leads to a very exciting, and semi-shocking moment of the episode.

It was particularly heartbreaking the moment evil Alice realized that not only was Beth now on their world, but she’s a version that Kate actually saved. The look on Alice’s face tells it all, which is what makes Kate’s decision ultimately more difficult. With both evil Alice and good Beth deteriorating, Alice goes to Mary for help and realizes that the antidote she gave her is still in her system. She forcefully withdraws some blood from Mary, but Mary comes to and knocks Alice out before she can inject herself with the antidote. Hoping to have Kate use the antidote on Beth, Mary takes it over to them. Meanwhile, Alice gets a hold of the phone and calls the C.R.O.W. security team to report that “Alice” is at Wayne Industries. What she doesn’t know is that they have the Batcave to hide in as the security team rushes the building.

There was a shoot-to-kill order given by Sophie so it made things rather complicated and dangerous for good Beth. All this back and forth ultimately led us to the episode’s turning point. Kate decided to give the antidote to the better version of her sister, the one that she wanted in her life all this time. Evil Alice had lost herself in the tragedy, and though it was no fault of her own, she wasn’t going to redeem herself.

Kate gives Beth the antidote and rushes to be by Alice’s side for her final moments. But things take an awkward turn when Beth is shot by one of the C.R.O.W.’s and dies on the spot, breathing life back into Alice. Let’s just say she’s not very happy with her dear sister Kate and is angrier than she’s ever been.
