Andy walks down a rural road where she sees her dad sitting by a campfire. He offers her a burnt marshmallow that turns to ash in her fingers. She awakes from this nightmare, unable to comprehend it, but equally unable to sleep. She is upset he is gone, but she is glad he got to choose his fate and wants to make sure Dixon doesn’t ruin that. Here’s what happened in “Dream a Little Dream of Me.”
This episode tackles the grieving of each of these firefighters over their beloved chief who risked it all to save half of them last week. Where else to start than of course with Andy and what she is struggling with. As Pruitt’s daughter it comes as no shock that his death hits her the hardest, but she has had quite the rough year to begin with. This culminates into a series of lucid dreams she has about everyone who has died and the people trying to help her. Luckily her husband Sullivan is able to be her rock and opens up more about his tragic past allowing Andy to say goodbye to her father.
Meanwhile, the remaining firefighters put together a fundraiser to get money for Pruitt’s funeral because Dixon won’t pay for it. Apparently his death, while in the line of duty, didn’t count because he was retired. They fund-raise throughout the episode while Dean writes up his will, Maya has her conduct hearing and Emmett’s engagement is announced amidst his confusing feelings for Travis. Oh the drama of Station 19.
Dean and Jack respond to a house fire that turns into a domestic issue where a husband is abusing his family. So Jack does what any sane person would do and helps them escape this situation, bringing them to an old friend of his. During Maya’s hearing she lashes back at Dixon and tells him to man up and give Pruitt the funeral he deserves. Oh and Ben learns that Sullivan OD’d and sends him the ominous message “we need to talk.” DUN DUN DUHHH.
