The Ghosts That Haunt Me is a run-of-the-mill firefighter story filled with family drama, forced confrontations and corruption in the department.

At the station, the firefighters are graced with the newest calendars from their photo shoot. This is interrupted by Andy returning to the team and seeing the calendar for the first time. She thanks them for helping out and takes a case for himself. When Sullivan arrives, Ben stops him with a “deal with your problems” look, but that is for later. For now, more steamy firefighter relationships and dispatch calls! Here’s what happened in “The Ghosts That Haunt Me.”

This episode was all about facing judgment and being forced into awkward situations. First up, Maya was visited by her mother who reveals that she is leaving her father. Maya is stunned to say the least, but it is within her mother’s apology for never intervening in her father’s abusive mentality that she draws the line. She would rather risk her life on the job than continue this conversation and so she joins the team on their next call.

Meanwhile, Dean helps out a walk-in case named Sasha with a small problem. She notices the calendars and purchases one while slipping her number to Dean. He’s confused, awkward and of course confides in Vic because let’s face it these two will eventually do that dance. It’s all about the set up and it is brewing!

When the team leaves, Ben corners Sullivan and forces him to pee in a cup. He berates Ben for talking to him like that, but he will not stand down given the situation. After revealing his pain issues, Ben tells him to get his house in order and fix his problem or he will intervene. It is revealed through a flashback with Ben and Pruitt that Ben doesn’t take kindly to giving people a way out. Pruitt remembers a situation where a cop let a drunk driver off the hook because he was the mayor’s son and it ended in a car crash that killed a family of five. The cop in question? A young Chief Dixon.

The call is at a bowling alley that has gone ablaze where the elderly owner and a kids birthday party are trapped. Dean and Travis manage to find the owner who is trapped under a pin setter. They try their best to save the man, but with his dying wish he asks Dean to convince his granddaughter to forgive her estranged father. All the family drama!

Meanwhile, Andy and Jack find the kids, but become trapped in the arcade. Jack starts to have PTSD from the skyscraper fire which prompts Andy to calm him down and talk about why she married Sullivan. This manages to distract him for long enough that they can all escape the fire.

On the way back home, Andy tells Jack that she is going to recommend Maya bench him. He admits it may be the right choice and opens up about going to therapy. Andy seems off-put that he is talking about her, but she has been back and forth with him for the past few years. Personally, I like the therapy angle. This is a high stress job and it is going to take its toll. It’s good that this show recognizes that.

When Ben and Sullivan go to Dixon’s office, he brushes aside the drug problems and tells the Battalion Chief that he owes him. Ben realizes that Dixon is the cop from Pruitt’s story, but he threatens Ben. If he pursues this, he will implicate the PRT and Bailey as a drug ring. Totally not dirty at all Chief Dixon.

The day ends with Maya yelling at her mom for saying her father abused her. She didn’t see the physical torture as abuse, but motivation to succeed. Whatever helps you sleep Maya. Meanwhile, Ben has discovered how he wants to honour his fallen captain. He wants to take down Dixon. Let’s hope that doesn’t implode in his face. Oh and Andy and Sullivan finally tell everyone they got married which felt like everyone already knew. Oh well!
