The penultimate episode of Station 19 starts off with Vic and Travis talking about their latest walk-in patient which ends with her awkwardly telling Jackson about what they had to do for the woman. They are interrupted by a call which prompts Vic to connect the dots about Travis and Emmett. They plan to leave, but are stopped by Sullivan who gives them overtime inspections to check out. Oh joy! Here’s what happened in “Bad Guy.”
The main story focuses on a layered, intense situation where a woman comes to the station with blood on her hands. She stabbed a man at the park who was trying to assault her, but as the Jackson and Ben depart with him, a junkie jumps in the front and threatens Emmett at gunpoint. She forces him to drive off haphazardly before pulling to the side of the road and opening the back doors to reveal herself to the others. Emmett stumbles into the back of the vehicle which startles the woman and she shoots Jackson in the leg. She quickly grabs the painkillers and races off before being promptly struck by an oncoming car. As the rapist dies, Ben can tend to Jackson’s wounds while Emmett breaks down and tells them he never wanted to become a firefighter.
Meanwhile, Carina tries to get to the root of Maya’s inability to see her father’s abusive past. Maya ignores this and wants Carina to leave, but she refuses. Instead, Maya goes for a run and at the station runs into Andy who is going through her own father issues. She looks through old belongings and realizes that she never saw her mom’s side of the family after her death. With this question in mind, she is unsure if she truly knew her father. However, Maya defends the late captain and tells Andy not to drag his dead name through the dirt.
During their inspections, Vic and Travis realize that the list isn’t inspections to do, but to be approved. Sullivan decides to let off on the inspections knowing that Dixon wanted them approved no questions asked. However, Vic won’t talk that as an answer given that her previous boss died due to poor fire safety at a theatre company. She berates Sullivan for letting this slide, but he wins the argument by using the “My parents are dead” card. How predictable.
And finally Jack has gained some respect back from Dean after dealing with the assault victim for the day. He knows they are both dealing with stuff, if only Maya got the memo. She decides to get into it with Jack at the station and a lot of harsh words are thrown around. He calls her broken, she says he cannot judge her relationship with her dad since she doesn’t have one, but he’d rather have no dad than hers. This ends in some sex between these two former flames who admit their own faults. Oh the drama!
