Wild World focuses on the struggles of a broken family and broken people as they try to repair the problems of their past even if it deals with some gaudy CGI along the way.

Synopsis: Andy takes the day off to continue to sort out her family life. Sullivan strives to work on his sobriety. Meanwhile, the team responds to a call involving a wild animal. (IMDb)

After the fallout of her family’s years of lies, Andy has been a mess. She hasn’t felt close to her real family or her firehouse family making things difficult in the time of social distancing. Thankfully, she remedies that at a safe reunion picnic with her aunt, uncle and cousin. As the family reconnects, Andy learns that her father forced them away when her cousin almost revealed her mother was still around and in their lives. Was that to protect Andy or save face for Pruitt? Oh how the plot thickens!

While Andy confronts her family, Sullivan confronts his drug problem in the form of a virtual meeting with Amelia. He basically beats around the bush and says nothing during the meeting which prompts Amelia to laugh at his lack of openness. She suggests a new sponsor who will kick him into shape prompting a phone call from Richard Webber. While Sullivan is reluctant at first, Webber eases him in starting with a story of walking into the O.R. drunk.

Ben and Travis are called to a house where Yvonne has some deep chest wounds and is calling out to someone named Lorelei. As Travis explores the house, he finds a huge supply of meat in the kitchen and an exotic playpen in the backyard leading them to learn that Lorelei is a Bengal tiger who escaped. They alert other firefighters to the situation and as they warn the neighborhood Yvonne dies en route to the hospital.

At the hospital, Ben runs into Carina who breaks down after losing another patient. She cannot deal with quarantining alone and wants to see Maya, but respects what Bailey and Ben are doing. He explains that their situation is unique and has more variables like children and then proclaims that Carina should go get her girl! She rushes to the station and they quickly agree to move in taking that next step together.

Meanwhile, Vic is upset with Dean about kicking her out for Sasha then immediately breaking up with her. They banter about this problem and Dean expresses his frustration to Maya then Jack about everything, but they are cut short because Lorelei has been found. She’s actually in the station and face-to-face with Vic! Dean is luckily nearby and distracts the giant tiger with some meat allowing Vic to run away. Screw the pandemic because Vic wants to hug Dean for the save and we all know sparks fly!

The focus of the episode is obviously on the ideals of family and the uncovering of Andy’s past while Sullivan tries to ensure their future and the rest of the team deals with their own familial issues. However, as the episode pushes away from focusing on the pandemic, it goes into truly bizarre territory with a Bengal tiger on the loose and it acting as a metaphor for many of the character’s situations. Unfortunately, this storyline drains the CGI budget causing heartfelt scenes relating to Andy’s past with her father to look extremely gaudy in their attempt to de-age Pruitt. Here’s hoping Station 19 uses more realistic analogies and metaphors going forward, but that feels like a pipe dream.
