Disney+ will unveil Star, its new general entertainment brand, inside the Disney+ app this February 23, bringing a fresh and ever-growing world of TV series, movies and originals to Canadian subscribers. Increasing the amount of content available on Disney+, Star will launch over 150 TV series, more than 500 movies at launch, increasing to nearly 800 by the end of 2021 which will include more exclusive Star Original content. Introducing Star Originals
From launch, Disney+ will become the exclusive home of Star Originals. Titles streaming on Disney+ in Canada include Love, Simon spin-off series Love, Victor written by the film’s original writers Isaac Aptaker (This Is Us) and Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us) and adult animated sitcom Solar Opposites, created by Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, and features B.C. native Thomas Middleditch as the voice of “Terry”. Other projects premiering throughout 2021 include premium series Only Murders in the Building (starring Hamilton native Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez), Dopesick (starring Will Chase, Rosario Dawson, Jake Dorman and Michael Keaton) and The Dropout (starring Kate McKinnon), as well as new content from the Kardashian Jenners.
More of what subscribers love, plus more to discover
Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream more of what they love. From fan-favourite TV series like Sons of Anarchy, 24, Felicity, The X-Files, Criminal Minds and Family Guy, Star will offer a range of titles for everyone and every mood, with more titles added weekly.
Adding to this impressive list is FOX’s hit series about first responders in 9-1-1 and the spin-off, 9-1-1 Lone Star, starring Rob Lowe. ABC’s Station 19 and The Resident starring Canadians Bruce Greenwood and Emily VanCamp, will also be available for subscribers to watch. Plus, award-winning movies available at launch include Life of Pi, The Favourite, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Grand Budapest Hotel, along with classics such as Alien, Die Hard, The Devil Wears Prada, and Little Miss Sunshine.
Robust parental controls
To make sure Disney+ remains suitable for audiences of all ages and the experience parents expect, new parental controls launching on February 23 will include the ability to set limits on access to content for specific profiles based on content ratings and the ability to add a PIN to lock profiles with access to mature content.

Canadian customers can subscribe to Disney+ for $11.99 per month, or $119 annually (annual price available at most retailers). Full details on how to subscribe will be available on Disneyplus.com. Current prices for existing subscribers (prior to February 23) will be honoured for six months, with the price change taking effect on the monthly or annual renewal date following August 22, 2021.
Star on Disney+ will also be available in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, plus Australia and New Zealand, beginning February 23. Content under the Star brand will vary by market.
