Synopsis: June splits off from the group in an effort to gather any information to help stop an oncoming threat. (IMDb)

Time for a messy episode to deliver some delayed closure for John and June in the form of a special new character to shoehorn into this latest conflict.

J.D. began with Morgan and June. The former was upset and questioning her intentions and for not being there when they needed her. Meanwhile, Grace wasn’t doing particularly well after losing her baby. From there, June went on to do her own thing looking for intel from one of Virginia’s former generals as Dwight and Sherry following close behind for. However, they were not alone. A man had been tracking the spray painters in their RV and was keenly aware of their activities. Unfortunately, he and June did not exactly get along on the right foot until she learned that the man was John’s estranged father, John Dorie Sr. (Keith Carradine) who abandoned him 40 years prior.

June and J.D. hit a snag when a walker tore up the RV (and June lost her jacket with an important letter inside from John which she never opened) as Dwight and Sherry chased after them, Meanwhile, Sherry needed to clear some unfinished business and kill Negan before going back home to Virginia (they also found June’s jacket). J.D. had s long history with Teddy, a former mortician and killer who he put away under questionable circumstances prompting his self-exile as a means to continue chasing him. Ultimately, all roads led to the infamous cabin which was more connected to everything than we realized.

Dwight and Sherry caught wind of where things were going. They got to the cabin first (J.D. locked June in a closet to protect the closest thing he had left to family but he was really just punishing himself). J.D. got acquainted with the cabin very fast (and his son’s grave) and stumbled onto the aforementioned general who had taken over control of the cabin before shooting him. Patched up, John finally got some closure with an actual funeral where June read his letter to her out loud, allowing her and his father to grieve. In the end, Sherry did not want to go down the same path as J.D. chasing Negan. Instead, Dwight proposed they go on a different path together.

Bringing J.D., a man with an intimate knowledge of Teddy back to Morgan was apparently enough to redeem herself as their time apart cooled down the heated nature of their current relationship. Now it was time to get to work and maybe J.D. will be the linchpin towards defeating a disappointingly thin villain in Teddy. With the season coming to an end, not much is known about him and his motivations as the season has arguably held onto him a little too long. Nevertheless, bringing someone in with the gravitas of Keith Carradine this close to the end, it’s going to be an exciting one.
