Synopsis: When a familiar foe descends upon Gotham, Batwoman and Mary find they must rely on each other more than ever; Alice has a new mission and gets an unexpected ally to join her. (TVGuide)

This week’s episode of Batwoman follows Luke’s journey as he deals with a world he doesn’t want to be a part of. In last week’s episode, he was having visions of Bruce Wayne and his father while in a coma. During the vision, Luke could either return to his mortal life or succumb to his injuries and leave that life behind and be with his father. Unfortunately for him, he was woken up by the Desert Rose given to him. Through this week’s episode, he is bitter and angry about it, especially when the world is not kind to people like him.

Not only did he wake up sans his father, but he learned that Tavaroff was released on bail, and likely wouldn’t face any repercussions for shooting Luke. He’s definitely out of it during the episode, and we can’t blame him in the slightest. Ryan tries to be there for him, but he just wants to be alone–and wants to follow Tavaroff around. He finds himself at a poker game with Tavaroff where Luke majorly kicks his butt. He runs into Diggle there who is in town for an A.R.G.U.S. contract, and apparently some health issues he’s having. His head has been bothering him, and things have been a bit fuzzy for him. This is why he’s going to Gotham General to get checked out by the neurology department. Perhaps these symptoms have something to do with the fact that he’s Green Lantern? Right? Maybe? Hopefully!?

Meanwhile, Jacob and Alice team up to confront and kidnap Circe. They believe her to be Kate (why are we still on this, by the way?!), and want to see if they can revive any memories for her. They try to use old memories but at first, it utterly fails. Alice then appeals to Circe as Beth. That is a sure-fire way to get through, and it ends up working. Circe immediately recalls bits and pieces of the memory Alice brings up, but the process is interrupted by a bunch of men who show up to kidnap Jacob. Alice tells Circe to run away, while she herself gets caught by Safiyah’s people.

Circe runs into Batwoman who promptly takes her to Mary. Unfortunately, Circe doesn’t remember Mary, but immediately recognizes Sophie when she walks in. Things are great for a while until Circe’s brainwashing kicks in and she tries to attack Mary. This is going to do wonders for Mary’s sisterly confidence, isn’t it? Jacob is kidnapped by Roman Sionis who threatens to out Alice as Beth Kane. With the GCPD on Roman’s side, Jacob has no options to fall back on.

Back at the poker game, Luke gets into a fight with Tavaroff, but Diggle breaks it apart in the nick of time. Luke clearly has some things to work through but a solid talk with Diggle helps straighten things out for him. Oh, how I’ve missed Diggle. Soon after, Luke learns that Kate is still alive, which is probably the best news he’s had in a while. Batwoman decides to give up her Desert Rose plant in exchange for Alice, but the whole plan backfires when Alice betrays her in the end. She opts to go look for Ocean instead of help out with Kate, and soon finds out that he’s been murdered. She’s utterly devastated to find the love of her life dead and gone. Sigh.

As the episode comes to an end, Sophie realizes that Circe is missing. She went back to Roman to confront him and ask if she is truly Kate Kane. He tries to pretend that is not the case and ends up getting stabbed in the hand by Circe. Clearly, Circe’s mind is beginning to get overwhelmed with two conflicting personalities within her, and if she doesn’t adapt to one, she is likely to completely lose it at some point.

Tune in next week to see if Circe will stay Circe, or if she will fully succumb to the person she actually is–Kate Kane.
