Andor (1×07) Announcement Review

After last week’s thrilling episode, many may not expect all that much from this episode or at the very least, expecting it to not live up to the level of excitement of last week’s episode. Sure, that level certainly isn’t here but this episode nonetheless delivers everything that makes Andor so brilliant.

The whole galaxy is shook after the successful heist on the Imperial Garrison on Aldhani that has left the Empire scrambling and tightening their grip on the galaxy in the hopes to force the Rebels out of hiding which now put Cassian Andor, Luthen but most notably Mon Mothra at risk as the latter’s political position is close to being compromised. This forces Mothra to seek help from an old childhood friend to access her family funds to help the Rebellion grow all the more faster. Andor returns to Ferrix to help Maarva (Fiona Shaw) and a cute little red droid named B2EMO to escape. However, Maarva refuses to continue her stand against the Empire.

Over at the Empire, Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) unofficially requests a Multi-Sector Data Blend going back two years, before her next meeting. In said meeting held by Major Partagaz (Anton Lesser), Lieutenant Supervisor Belvin (Ben Bailey Smith) smugly calls Meero out on her unsanctioned Multi-Sector Data Blend request, to which she shuts down quickly proving a link between Rebel activity. This impresses Partagaz as he assigns Meero with Ferrix, of which Belvin was previously assigned too.

Announcement wraps up as Andor settles down on Niamos to escape his previous life and move on. Unfortunately, this plan quickly goes awry as some civilians are seen running from some stormtroopers but one of them accuses Andor of being apart of it, to which Andor quickly tries to prove his innocence which didn’t exactly go well. As an Imperial Security Droid holds him by the neck chocking Andor before a quick cut to a courtroom were a false charge is placed against Andor. With the Empire taking very drastic and dire measures against the Rebel Alliance, Andor faces an unusually high six-year sentence.

The episode isn’t anywhere near as tense or as exhilarating as last week but it brilliantly deals with the result of the heist, showing its effect on all the parties involved including Andor as he is still being hunted. Andor may be slower and longer than most Disney+ Star Wars series and may not be for everyone but there is no denying that it is undoubtedly the best written live-action Star Wars series to date.

The ending of the episode is somewhat ambiguous, leaving fans unsure of what to expect going forward. Will there be a time jump or will Andor escape prison? Will Andor join the Empire and take it down from the inside, or will he immediately join the Rebel Alliance? However, one thing can be certain and that is fans can hopefully expect to see Alan Tudyk return as Andor’s dear droid friend K-2SO next week as he may or may not be involved in Andor’s presumed escape. At the end of the day, fans will just have to wait for next week to find out.
