So far, Andor has delivered plenty of tension, making viewers care for its characters and delivering moments that will have fans screaming in excitement. However, Daughter of Ferrix mostly shies away from that tension in favor of a more emotionally-impactful episode which is by no way a knock against it.

Daughter of Ferrix kicks off with the tragic death of Andor’s mother Maarva which proved to be the main catalyst of the episode. In what was a very emotional scene, Gilroy adds many more layers of emotion. Seeing B2-EMO (Dave Chapman) in such a vulnerable state was beyond devastating. Similarly, this scene delivers a cute moment between B2-EMO and Brasso (Joplin Sibtain), as honors Maarva’s wishes by attempting to care for the cute droid. Her death had meanwhile shaken the Empire as Dedra Meero and the rest of the ISB continue the search for Andor as they try to capitalize on the moment to try and capture him, particularly Syril Karn.

After the escape on Narkina 5, Andor and Melshi (Duncan Pow) make it to shore and soon come across two Narkina fishers who help them return to Niamos. The two Narkina fishers were brilliantly-designed and were a joy to watch despite their terrifying and unpredictable nature at least at first. It doesn’t take long before Andor to learn about his mother’s death, which will certainly lead him to attend the funeral and encounter whatever forces may be waiting for him once he does.
Adding to this emotional episode are the short moments audiences spend with Mon Mothma as she pours her heart out to her cousin on the danger, she found herself in and how broken she has now become.

Possibly the most exciting moment of the episode involved Luthen as he met with Saw Gerrera to tell him that the heist is off in what was a thrilling and tense exchange. Forest Whitaker and Stellan Skarsgård are two phenomenal actors and the two deliver truly incredible performances in this scene, making it one of the best moments of the series thus far.

After meeting with Saw, Luthen gets stopped by an arrester cruiser that attempts to board his ship but before the arrester cruiser catches him, he destroys the tractor beam pulling his ship in before it releases a handful of Tie Fighters of which he also destroys with relative ease in a brilliantly choreographed air combat action scene. Although short, the scene was nonetheless thrilling.

In the end, it’s no surprise that Andor once again delivers another brilliant episode of television this week. Although it may lack the tension and excitement of last week’s episode, Gilroy brings the series down to an emotional level with Daughter of Ferrix, one with less tension and action but also one offering more tragedy which will likely lead some fans to shed a tear or two.
