January has historically been a month riddled with various low-risk movie dumps by studios trying to find a window to release films in their slates that don’t quite fit anywhere else, or wide releases of the previous year’s awards contenders in order to boost their respective profiles post-nominations as audiences flock to movie theatres to see what all the fuss is about. That being said, this trend has started to shift as the month’s so-called dumps have went on to find some success and The Beekeeper looks to be the prime example this year, garnering solid reviews and breaking $100 million at the worldwide box office. Despite mixed reviews, the film adaptation of the Mean Girls musical was not too far behind, looking to end its run with around $75 million. But what did we think about the first month of 2024 had to offer? Check out our picks for the top 3 best and worst movies of January 2024.
