Synopsis: After The Citizen prints an explosive story, Iris’s life is threatened; refusing to hide from her attackers, Iris sets out to expose a dangerous organization; Barry must face the consequences of the Crisis and fulfill Oliver Queen’s wish for him. (IMDb)
The Flash has finally given us a look at a post-Crisis world, and it wasn’t all that exciting. While it wasn’t utterly disappointing, one can’t help but expect a bit more than what we got. After Oliver Queen’s sacrifice, Barry essentially has been given a new chance at life.
He’s busy doing his thing, zooming around, and saving lives. But something feels different, and it’s hard to figure out what that is. In the midst of his post-Crisis work, Diggle (Hi, David Ramsey!) pops in to give Barry a gift that Oliver left behind for him–the mask Barry made for him way back in the day.
Now, just like many of us, Barry is having a hard time accepting Oliver is gone. Which is why he’s quick to latch onto a supposed clue he thinks Oliver left behind for him on the mask. A quick trip to Lian Yu to look for Mirakuru solves that mystery real quick (and don’t worry, it turned out to be nothing). But it does give Barry the kick in the butt he needs to move forward. At least we got to see Diggle again because of it.
Meanwhile, Iris seems to be a central part of the episode this week as she takes on McCulloch Technologies. She doesn’t hesitate to write a scathing article about them, but in the process, she has put herself in the middle of a very shady situation. It’s unclear what happened there at the end of the episode, but it was giving off some major Mirror Master vibes. And based on next week’s promo, it appears that Iris may go onto become Earth-Prime’s big bad? Maybe? Imagine, Iris, Mirror Master–how cool is that?!
As far as the future of Central City, “Marathon” doesn’t quite touch on that this week. It felt like the episode went right back to its usual format, and that is something very disappointing about this episode. It’s not unreasonable to want the post-Crisis world to impact The Flash as well so hopefully that all this talk of metas and new villains comes into play in the coming weeks.
