Here are our top 10 comedies to keep you company while in isolation! (Click each title to find out how you can stream our picks)
You might hate being at home, but these guys hate being at work. Clerks follows Dante and Randal. Two twenty something year olds working at a convenience store and their daily debacles such as debating movies, playing ball hockey on the roof and dealing with lousy customers. Clerks is an easy flick to just throw on and hopefully have a great time with as we did.
9. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)
Even though schools are shut down it doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun history lesson! Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure follows two students on the edge of failing history class. However, when they cross paths with a telephone time machine things start to become a blast as they travel century to century meeting with all kinds of historical figures. Not only is this movie a blast, but it’s the perfect 80’s movie to show the young ones at home during family movie night.
8. Walk Hard: A Dewey Cox Story (2005)
Walk Hard is for sure the funniest music comedy to ever exist. Following a childhood tragedy, Dewey Cox follows a long and winding road to music stardom. Dewey perseveres through changing musical styles, an addiction to nearly every drug known and bouts of uncontrollable rage. Not only is this the biggest middle finger to cliche biopics, but John C. Riley provides one of the funniest performances in his career. Filled with A-list celebrities, catchy music and tons of belly laughs, Walk Hard will not disappoint!
Love them or hate them, the Star Wars movies are a part of cinematic history. But one thing I can promise you is that you will love Spaceballs. Perhaps the best parody film to ever exist, Spaceballs is hilarious, fun and family friendly! I myself deteste Star Wars but I absolutely love this film. With performances from Joan Rivers, John Candy and the legendary Mel Brooks, Spaceballs is a great time.
Hot take: This is Taika Waititi’s best film to date. In Boy we meet Boy, an 11-year-old who lives on a farm with his gran, a goat, and his younger brother, Rocky (who thinks he has magic powers). Shortly after Gran leaves for a week, Boy’s father, Alamein, appears out of the blue, the two go on a journey filled with bonding, laughter, realization and alot of Micheal Jackson. Boy is 100% the most heartfelt film on this list so if you’re looking for a feel good, heartwarming comedy, look no further Boy is the one for you.
5. Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)
When the kiddies fall asleep and you’re looking for some raunchy and surprisingly heartfelt fun, Zack and Miri Make a Porno is the best option. Lifelong platonic friends Zack and Miri look to solve their respective cash-flow problems by making an adult film together. As the cameras roll, however, the duo begin to sense that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought. With killer performances from Seth Rogen & Craig Robinson the comedy never stops in this film. What makes it even more-ludicrous is that the film is actually the semi-autobiographical story of director Kevin Smith’s process of making Clerks (which is listed at 10).
4. The Room (2003)/The Disaster Artist (2017)
If you’re on a binge, The Room and The Disaster Artist make for one of the best double pairings ever. The Room needs no explanation whatsoever and is best if you go in completely unaware. The Disaster Artist however is the retelling of the insane production process of The Room. With the Franco bro’s helming the main roles and too many A-list celebrities to name scattered throughout the film, This double feature is weird, wacky, awkward and a hell of a good time.
Arguably one of the funniest comedies of 2019, Booksmart follows Amy and Molly on the eve of their high school graduation, that they should have worked less and played more. Determined to never fall short of their peers, the girls set out on a mission to cram four years of fun into one night. What makes Booksmart so special is its take on high school stereotyped movies and flipping the script in the craziest of ways to make a heartfelt, laugh out loud comedy that shows the true importance of friendship, great memories and having fun.
Although it may be depressing to watch an “end of the world”film at a time like this, rest assured the only tears you’ll be having during Shaun of The Dead are tears of laughter. The film follows Shaun, a typical joe-blow who lives a supremely uneventful life, which revolves around his girlfriend, his mother, and, above all, his local pub. This gentle routine is threatened when the dead return to life and make strenuous attempts to snack on ordinary Londoners. This comedic masterpiece put stars Nick Frost and Simon Pegg on the map and led to many more great comedies throughout the years. Shaun of the Dead is a gruesomely fun time that shouldn’t be missed especially at a time like this.
Why risk going out when you could have a huge party right in your living room? Project X follows three nerdy high schoolers who throw the best party ever. All done in a found footage form, the film makes you literally feel like you are at this insane party. Filled with raunch, comedy and a killer soundtrack, Project X will have you feeling back on your feet in no time!
