2017 Best Visual Effects Oscar Shortlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this year’s shortlist of potential Oscar contenders for best visual effects.

“Alien: Covenant”
“Blade Runner 2049″
“Dunkirk”
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”
“Kong: Skull Island”
“Okja”
“The Shape of Water”
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”
“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”
“War for the Planet of the Apes”

These films will participate in a “bake off” in early January, during which the VFX branch will vote on the nominations.

The 90th Academy Award nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 and the ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 on ABC.
