Sun and Fun was an entertaining episode offering an abrupt end to Capshaw while position the series towards its final stretch.

Synopsis: As the search intensifies for a serial killer on the run, so does Malcolm’s tenacity, causing U.S. Marshal Emily Ruiz to kick him off the case. However, Malcolm doesn’t back down that easily. (IMDb)

So Capshaw was the real psycho after all? Nevertheless, Bright had to prove it which would be easier said than done as maybe he needed his father in his life in order to function whether he wanted it or not. Catherine Zeta-Jones definitely went out with a bang. Meanwhile, Martin found himself vulnerable in a way that we haven’t yet seen from him.

The episode title Sun and Fun was certainly not that as it began with Bright at his wits’ end still trying to solve what happened until a clue pointed him towards Capshaw. However, no one else seemed to believe Bright’s theory thus he would be forced to investigate alone though Jessica prefered he and Ainsley sit things out. Meanwhile, she was nearly apprehended due to a broken taillight while Martin was in her trunk but she charmed her way out of it.

Capshaw had taken Martin to a secluded manor where she’d hope the two can live some sort of fantasy life together. He couldn’t feel his legs which implied that he wasn’t a willing participant. In fact, she abducted him in the midst of his escape. Meanwhile, it was up to Bright and Jessica to dig up some dirt on Capshaw but thankfully Jessica still had connections in the medical community thanks to her husband in the person who introduced them (and she wouldn’t let him forget it). A relationship with one of her former patients, one who led to her firing, implied some devious motives on her part.

Martin calling Jessica for help did not sit well with Capshaw as she wasn’t his equal like Capshaw was and wouldn’t understand him like she claimed to (Capshaw appealed to Jessica’s hate for Martin and convinced her to keep their phone call secret while Gil similarly appealed to her feelings for him). Regardless, she was going to prove herself to him. Capshaw had a plan for Martin but he was not going for it. Meanwhile, Dani accompanied Bright to look for evidence against Capshaw. They only found circumstantial evidence until Bright saw Capshaw there and offered himself to her instead while recording himself for Ainsley who went to Dani for help,

Now Capshaw’s plan seemingly included torturing Bright as she appeared to be envious of their relationship while Martin watched. Calling the police and stabbing herself to set him up, Dani interrupted her. Distracted, Martin saved his son and they escaped together on a boat and rode into the sunset.

With Capshaw seemingly out of the picture, Martin and his son somewhere is something worth looking forward to. Now that the series has been cancelled for now, it unfortunately looks like that’s all we’re going to get which is a shame.
