This week’s iZombie brings on Rachel Bloom as a guest star–and boy, was it great! The episode kicks off with her character participating in a community theatre performance of Rent, the zombie version. They sang their version of “Seasons of Love”, but Bloom’s guest appearance was short-lived as she was part of the bus crash from a couple episodes ago.
Liv eats Bloom’s theatric brains and spends the episode breaking out in song, which is a welcome change from her always eating a victim’s brains. Peyton continues to deal with the victims of the bus crash and is asked to locate a pet dog that went missing during the crash. Unfortunately, the victim it belonged to was a drug addict and she hesitates to ask Liv to eat his brains to help her find the dog.
Meanwhile, Liv is all set to take Mama’s place in the cause she left behind and begins working with Leon and company. However, the others aren’t too quick to trust Liv especially since she works with the FBI. And if you recall Clive has an open relationship with Dale and shares some sparks with Michelle as she does her police training.
And it appears that it’s that time of the month again for Ravi where his zombie cravings kick in. He decides to eat the heroin addict’s brains and goes into severe withdrawal when he doesn’t get his hands on the drugs. All in the name of love!
The Seattle P.D. goes through a sexual harassment course after the local newsman, Johnny Frost harasses one of his co-workers on air. This turns into a hilarious opportunity for Liv to put on a performance due to her acting brains. It also places Clive in an awkward situation when he has to reveal he has had an in-office relationship in front of Michelle.
Liv’s mission with Renegade’s crew continues when they learn some people were smuggled into the marina by accident. They decide to go and save them which requires Liv to once again channel the acting brains she is on. While she flirts with the security guy, the rest of the crew finds the group of people. After finding the sick group of people, Liv scratches them as they reunite with their families.
Peyton realizes that Ravi has gone to the lengths of eating heroin addict brains for her and takes care of him as he struggles through withdrawal. While doing so, Ravi has a vision of where the dog is and Peyton is able to take the dog back to the owner and her kid. Ravi won some major points here and wins over Peyton’s heart once again!
Things aren’t looking so great for Blaine, now that he realizes his father is very much alive. He gets a call from Don E. who informs him a group of people have taken over the restaurant. It is here where Blaine sees his father who forces him to give the churchgoers a standing reservation every week to eat whatever brains they please.
Liv and Leon meet once again back at the morgue. He has a flash drive for her that is filled with people they can help out. After their first success with her, the team is finally on board with her taking over Renegade’s place and want her to pick three people to help.
This week’s iZombie is a tad bit slower than the rest of the season but was entertaining nonetheless. Rachel Bloom’s guest appearance and Liv eating her brains made for some hilarious moments throughout the episode. Rose McIver’s weekly performance always shines through and once again she proves this week she really can do it all.
Score: 7/10
