Synopsis: A mysterious, hallucinogenic contagion tests Barry’s convictions; Iris uncovers a massive conspiracy. (IMDb)
There’s just one episode between The Flash and the epic DCTV crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths. Considering that little time left, it’s surprising that The Flash went the route it did this week. It’s pretty much all about Ramsay and his weird Venom-like powers following last week’s episode that ended with Ralph in Ramsay’s clutch.
The Last Temptation of Barry Allen, Pt. 1 picks up right from there as Team Flash works together to save Ralph’s life. With Barry’s phasing abilities and his super-fast healing blood, Ralph is out of danger. Given that the team has so much to deal with, it doesn’t bode well for the impending Crisis. Side note: If someone took a shot for every time the word “crisis” was used in this episode, you’d be plastered.
Barry’s pretty disheartened about everything and as he heads home, he finds Ramsay is waiting for him. As we come to learn, Ramsay isn’t actually there in person, but his cells managed to infect Barry when Ralph was given his blood.
From here on out, Barry is pretty much tripping out while his body is back at home. He sees his mother, baby Nora, and glimpses of the Crisis. According to Ramsay, Barry can survive the Crisis if he has Ramsay’s blood.
As Barry realizes that there is truth to Ramsay’s words, his anger begins to increase as does his fever. His body is feeling the effects of it which Cisco and Killer Frost are now trying to take care of.
During his mind trip, Barry’s mother reveals to him that if he takes Ramsay’s blood he may live forever, but he would be trading his soul. It would strip him of all the things that make him Barry Allen, which doesn’t sound like a decent trade to me.
At some point, Barry is being pulled in two directions–his mother and Ramsay. He manages to get out of this mind trip and wakes up in S.T.A.R. Labs. But there’s something off about him, something that just doesn’t seem right. Unfortunately, it takes for Iris to notice that Barry isn’t actually Barry. It’s RAMSAY! This wasn’t that shocking of a reveal.
Ramsay has officially taken over Barry and zooms off to meet with Ramsay (I know, I know, this is confusing). It’s unclear where the heck all of this is going, but with Crisis just one episode away, there better be something good happening here.
Oh, and Nash has finally broken through to the Monitor’s super-secret door. But what the heck do those symbols mean? And did anyone else think they looked like symbols from the Marvel superheroes?
Until next week, folks!
