Jughead goes about his daily routine in Dilton’s bunker. It’s been two weeks of microwave meals, watching his funeral and investigating the Stonewall Preppers. Betty and Archie continue their charade of a blooming relationship and slowly we learn about who is in on the ruse: Jellybean, F.P., Mary and eventually Hermosa. This all culminates in Betty (and Jughead!) storming into Stonewall to confront Mr. DuPont and his former classmates. Here’s what happened in “The Locked Room.”
The episode then goes through all the evidence that Betty and Jughead have compiled over the season. What happened to Moose, DuPont’s theft of the Baxter Brothers franchise and Mr. Chipping’s death. They conclude that every new ghost writer was hired after committing the perfect murder of one of their fellow competitors. The Stonewall students planned to do this with Jughead with each of them in charge of a piece of their murder puzzle. Luckily Jonathan got sick which allowed Archie, Veronica and Betty to save Jughead and start him on the path of vengeance.
They turn their sights to Mr. DuPont and bring in Forsythe as proof of his crimes. Charles arrives and gives further evidence that DuPont has blood on his hands. This of course results in another window suicide. With him out of the way, FP and Charles start to break apart each of the students. They manage to retrieve the sex tapes from Bret and force Donna, whose grandmother was part of the Quill & Skull, to give up her claim to the franchise so Jughead can rightfully take it back.
With the case closed, Cheryl questions if there was a real spark between Betty and Archie. FP and his father try to fix their relationship after decades of estrangement. Oh and the core four get to finally enjoy a carefree night at Pop’s together. What else will Riverdale have in store for the rest of its season? Anything is possible in this small town.
