Animated shows tend to have the most flexibility in terms of their tone and message thanks to the versatility of the medium. They are able to visualize what the mind creates with little limitation in comparison to live action. Many of these shows decide to depict deep themes that commentate on society or topical issues in a tasteful way.

Family friendly animated films tend to be some of the least ambitious modes of storytelling. They use a redone story, chosen from a handful of lighthearted, but strong messaged ideas, and infuse their own brand of humour related to the characters and location the story is set in. This film is no different, but it’s in its uniqueness that this story shines.

If there’s one genre that rose in popularity since the start of streaming services it would be that of true crime. Back in 2004, the original true crime docu-series was released as The Staircase caused households everywhere to dive into the evidence of the case and come up with their own theories. This fascination with being amateur couch bound detectives was renewed when the Netflix series Making a Murderer become an international sensation.
