Trial & Error is a terribly underappreciated show that is evident in the network’s decision to release its second season during the dead summer months. Any film or TV series that deals with student life has the pressure of its cast delivering some great, relatable performances. That isn’t to say that child actors can’t deliver phenomenal performances, but some are still discovering what kind of actor they are so it can be real hit or miss. The last few coming of age stories have been promising so hopefully Bo Burnham’s directorial debut can follow that trend.
The area of Netflix’s original lineup that has been the most controversial is their science fiction content. While shows (Stranger Things, Black Mirror, Altered Carbon, Lost in Space) have received rave reviews, their feature films (The Cloverfield Paradox, Spectral, Bright, Mute) have been less than well-received. Could The Titan break that streak? (Spoiler Alert: It doesn’t).
While Netflix has had its fair share of misfires this year, one area they have excelled in is the reimagining of the modern rom-com. After When We First Met and Kissing Booth, could Set It Up be the third in a hopefully long line of successful romantic comedies that change how this genre is viewed?
